Why you are my Goddess?
A free verse is a way of poetry which has not the limitations of rhythm, meter and most of the
time does not rhyme. Free verse is written in a natural way, similar to a narrative. That is the main
reason why I choose to write in a free way. I am a person who likes to say the things in the moment in
which I am feeling it, so I consider that this poetry style was the most appropriated for my work.
Although the free verse is literally a way of free writing I think that, for many men, it was not
enough to write down in a paper their thoughts as a normal way. Probably they thought that words need
some special modifications with the purpose that people can understand the authors feelings and
intentions and I think that the night or day in which a not-normal person found a way to make words
feel like magic it was the day in which poetic devices born. Poetic devices are the ways and methods in
which we can combine words to make sentences have what I called a double sound.
Revising the movie Concussion once again, a detail captured my attention. How Bennet Omalu
feels living alone in a city in which even his work peers rejects him? Watching people that have their
parents, a mate and a family. His boss constantly ask him about why he does not search for a girlfriend,
and if it was my position, this constant words would make me wonder the same question. So I found this
situation as the poetic object. My poem thanks about how Bennet was passing his days before and after
of the arrival of Prema, his wife. The free verse have a combination of sadness and lightning, and that is
why I titled the poem: My Goddess.
The poem consist of: three personifications, one hyperbole, four metaphors, one simile and one
alliteration. Here is a list of all of them and their meaning:

Personifications:
1. Loneliness that floods every place that I go
Loneliness is a feeling which we cant attribute people characteristics, but in certain
manner, we feel something similar to an inundation of emptiness.
2. When the sun is going to slip through my veins to color these black shades?
The sun can bring light in a dark place, but the sun cannot slip through any place and nor
the veins, but many times in which we are sad and depressive we compare the feeling
with a darkness that took live inside of us.
3. The churchs doors parted to one side to receive a princess
The doors can move, but they cannot move by themselves. In the poem this movement
refers to depart in a way of respect when a person of royalty is present.
Hyperbole:
1. but in this ocean of robot alike people I did not found another reason that my job.
It refers to the great quantity of people that have a normal life in the city in which he
lives, but we know that is not possible that an ocean is composed of people.
Metaphors:
1. I wondered until that April first in which you arrived, dear spring.
The arrive of Prema is compared with the change from winter to spring. Prema is like the
new season of Bennets life which changed all the loneliness to beautiful colors. From
that, we replace Prema for spring.
2. the treasure that God had presented to my eyes.
Once again the name of Prema is replaced by the word treasure to make the reader know
that his presence have a great value for Bennet.

3 and 4. When you looked at me for the first time, a pair of bright stars illuminate my dark valley.

Here are two metaphors: the eyes of prema are indirectly compared with a pair of bright
stars and the life of Bennet before her arriving is compared to a dark valley.

Simile:
1. a princess as pure as Virgin Mary.

Bennet compares Prema with Virgin Mary because he found pureness and peace in her.

Alliteration:
1. So much, so much, so much that I struggle to get it till here, When are you going to price me?
The alliteration in this verse is trying to make the reader understand that Bennet is asking
to loneliness and life itself why he is alone although he make a great effort living the
right way.
I liked to write this poem because I had an opportunity to express myself using poetry in a way in
which I felt comfortable. It should not be in that way, but many times we felt insufficient as human
beings and then we enter in a stage or our lives in which the only thing that made us feel well is found a
person or thing that serves as a rudder. This is beneficial in many ways because most of the times this
kind of help made us realize how valuable we are.
