Essential Question: Should people go to physical therapy?
Working Thesis: Physical therapy is crucial for any person who has had a serious injury and it is
very important that those people attend the physical therapy.
Refined Thesis: Physical therapy is the framework in rehabilitating a serious injury any person
has suffered and missing the opportunity to repair one's body with physical therapy is one of the
worst things someone could possible do because the patient hurts themselves immensely without
having care.

The article Knowledge Translation And Implementation Special Series. The

Contribution Of Conceptual Frameworks To Knowledge Translation Interventions In Physical
Therapy analyzes the importance of physical therapy after a serious injury and surgery. After a
surgery procedure, chances are that the patient is experiencing pain, swelling, loss of motion and
bruising following the procedure. Getting moving after the procedure is one of the most
important things someone can do if they plan on returning back to the physical level that they
were at before the injury. Moving can help improve the blood circulation, which is responsible
for delivering fuel throughout your body. This can help decrease the amount of swelling to the
injury. Movement is crucial because it also increase the healing process by getting blood flow to
the injury. The exercises in physical therapy that are provided will help increase the strength
faster than if you stayed in bed all day without motion. Strength is important because if the area
of the injury is weak, it increases the chance of a re-injury. The exercises also help improve your
overall health. This article is relevant because it describes what physical therapy can do to
improve the body and how it helps a person recover from their injury.

Injury." European Journal Of Physiotherapy 15.2 (2013): 78. Advanced Placement

In the article "Deficits In Single-Limb Stance More Than 20 Years After ACL
Injury analyzes the consequences for not getting the surgery and physical therapy for a torn
ACL. An ACL injury negatively impact performance in single-limb tasks for the ACL- injured
leg. Evidence from different studies show reduced performance for the injured leg without as

well as with ACL reconstruction, compared to the intact leg. In a single limb stance on the
injured leg, 5 years after injury, non-surgically treated subject showed increased postural sway
compared with stance on the uninjured leg and compared with individuals with uninjured knees.
If a patient ignores physical therapy they put themselves at risk at long term injuries including
the risk of re-injuring. People who have surgery for a torn ACL are strongly encouraged to have
physical therapy. If not, they will suffer from knee pain throughout the recovery process and may
not be able to perform as they did before they suffered the devastating injury. In most cases,
people who take place in physical therapy perform the same or even better as they once did
before the injury. This article is relevant because it goes into detail about the effects of not going
to and performing in physical therapy and how it will hurt you in the long run.

In the article Effect of Exercise Therapy On Walking Ability In Individuals With Knee
Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Randomised Controlled Trialsit
describes one of the most common diseases that occurs when a patient doesnt take place in
physical therapy. Knee osteoarthritis is usually a very common condition among US adults 60
years and older but occurs with patients with a torn ACL who do not take place in physical
therapy. When not taking place in physical therapy, the knee stiffens up and the blood flow slows
tremendously, helping cause pain and inflammation of the joint capsule, impaired muscular

stabilization, and reduces the range of motion of the knee, helping cause the disease. Studies
show 80% of people suffer from the disease when having a torn ACL. In many of those cases,
the disease was found earlier when those patients had not participated in the physical therapy
suggested for them. This article is relevant because it describes the biggest disease to people who
do not attend physical therapy and the cost of not attending the sessions, which is a lifelong pain
in the joints of the injured area.
