Advancements in the Biomedical Engineering field

The technology around the world is advancing every second that we take a breath.
Especially technology in the medical field is growing and pairing up with other fields to expand
even faster. Biomedical Engineers work in companion with the medical field where they create
many different prosthetics to improve the world. This issue is being favored in the advancement
of medicine through two separate genres. The YouTube video over The Prosthetic Eye is
explaining to what the benefits of getting an artificial eye, and the news article over Bionics Eye
implants the worlds first is explaining the way that people with diseases would be able to see
once again. This genres and views regarding the advancements in technology will be explained
further throughout the remainder of the analysis.

Audience and Purpose

The first genre, the YouTube video over The Prosthetic Eye was discussed over a
YouTube video created by the Ocular Prosthetic Inc. The purpose of this video was to inform the
general audience looking for information when deciding to get a prosthetic eye by letting
someone that got the artificial eye gives a better explanation of the benefits. The second genre,
the news article over Bionic Eye implants the worlds first was discussed in an informational way
where they give a step by step on how this bionic eye helps recover the vision of the patients.
The purpose of this article was to inform the general population interested in health
advancements for important information over the bionic eye.

The intended audience for The Prosthetic Eye is the general population, but with a
direction towards the people that are looking for information on trying to get an artificial eye..
While for the Bionic Eye implants the worlds first newspaper article is intended towards the
people with certain diseases that might have a possibility to be able to recover their eyesight. In
both genres people should have the basic knowledge of prosthetic eyes and are just looking for
more information to make a final decision with a smarter choice. Unlike, the second genre, the
audience in the first genre will have to have different knowledge over the advancement as they
wont be recovering their vision, but the look of their eye will return to a eye catching look.
Both genres will be different in the amount of time spent reading or watching the
different genres. The first genre is being presented in a manner of a video, which will make you
take the length of the video listening and watching it. While in the second genre it is being
presented in form of an article, which will depend, on the amount of time it takes the reader to
skim/read the article. The newspaper article can also extend in time if the reader chooses to go
through the links provided to investigate more over the topic.
The language used in the video is informal as its in the manner of an interview and it has
more freedom in the way they want to respond to the questions. In the article is shaped with a
more formal language as it is informing with important aspects of the product and information of
when it would be the correct time to get the bionic eye. The vocabulary in both genres is
specialized as it uses many medical terms. The terminology being used in both genres also
feature an informational, descriptive, persuasive and with a purpose. The images being presented
in both genres are specific to what they want to present with their information. The video is
presenting you with the image of the lady to give you a better look at what you would be getting
if you were to decide to get an artificial eye. In the article they present you different images

corresponding to the text around it providing you with a better concept of what they are talking
about.

Rhetorical Issues

In both genres you are presented with rhetorical appeal, the way that they are
implemented and shown to you differ with each genre. Both of the genres create the rhetorical
appeals with the information they present. They way they each provided important details helped
create a good rhetorical triangle and helped establish credibility on important information on the
topic.

Ethos

In the video The Prosthetic Eye you are being shown an interview by the Ocular
Prosthetic Inc. which provides the viewer with the sense of credibility because of the contact
information being presented and that its also a being shown by a medical office. They establish
the credibility by providing the information via a credible source. The newspaper article is
providing the reader with critical information that increases its credibility because they provide
external sources to extend the research and credibility of the topic. The article is also being
presented by a reliable source like BBC.com.

Pathos

The first genre is presenting information that is trying to evoke a sense of comprehension
and attraction to what is like to have an artificial eye. They provide the viewer with the interview
and they are talking about the different aspects of the artificial eye. While, the second genre is
trying to evoke a sense of comprehension, so that the reader can lay all their attention in learning
more over the bionic eye. They give a step-by-step article keeping the interest in the next
paragraph, as it will provide more information on the product that can fix the eyesight problem.

Logos

The first genre provided an informational interview with different type of questions
supporting the different claims for use of logos. The followed each question with a question
supporting or providing more information to support the claims. In the second genre they keep
the context very professional and clean giving a good sense of the use of logos. The provided the
reader with information over the product and the diseases affecting the problem and how they
would be able to solve it. The links provided in the article gives more support to the claims as it
provides more reliability on the source.

Structure and Delivery

In the first genre the structure is an interview form where it has different limitations on
what it will be able to provide to the audience. They will be able to word the questions to make
the interviewee answer in a certain manner. They are able to change the direction of the interview
in any manner by wording the questions differently, which can facilitate or make it harder to

deliver the message thats intended. In the second genre the structure is a newspaper article that
is freer to write as it can increase in length and provide you with variety of information. You can
also expand your research by providing links to different sources for more information. This will
facilitate how you provide the information, but it can also complicate the attention that it will
have throughout the whole article.

Conclusion

In conclusion they both explained the topic well and provided us with the necessary
information. The first genre was less formal than the second, but it also provided with us with a
different perspective of the action being taken. Each genre provided us with important
information to make the decision and aspects of the different kinds of prosthetic eyes.
