ANTI-BULLYING MONTH
Since October is anti-bullying month, the middle school counselors went into 7th & 8th
grade classes to discuss bullying and how it can affect a student. Wednesday, October
29th, the middle school counselors had a unity day, where all staff and students wore
orange in unity. Students were asked to sign a pledge against bullying and received a
unity bracelet for their commitment.
On September 17th, October 1st and 8th we hosted our annual mini college fairs. On
average, we had 25 colleges from around the country attend. Our seniors were
encouraged to attend and discuss any questions they had with the college
representatives.
On November 3-4, the counselors visited Quinnipiac, Yale and Southern Connecticut University. It was an eventful two
days, packed with extended tours of the campuses and learning what upcoming changes the schools will have. Located in
or near the heart of New Haven, CT, all three colleges have their remarkable differences. They are all expanding and
providing more resources for their students.
For more information on what the colleges have to offer, please feel free to contact your school counselor.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
nd
At our 2
annual Spanish college night,
representatives from SUNY Old Westbury,
Molloy College, and NYIT were present. The
presentation started off with a brief overview
of graduation requirements and ended with
information on the application process, majors
that are offered and financial information from
each college.
The counselors have been working diligently with every senior on the
application process since the beginning of school year.
Working
collaboratively with the English department and providing support to the
Essay Writing class, over 70% of our seniors submitted their applications by
November 30th. Before the holidays, most of our seniors who applied early
action or early decision will know what colleges they have been accepted
to.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Counseling Center will update our list of scholarships on a monthly basis. By now your student received the scholarship
bulletin that is currently available. Please refer to the bulletin to see the exact deadline for each scholarship as well as general
information on other excellent sources. The bulletin is always available on our department website.
