Competency 007: The teacher understands and applies

principles and strategies for communicating effectively in varied teaching
and learning contexts.
What this competency means to me is that every child learns differently and one of
the most important jobs we have as teachers is to make sure we are able to meet
the learning needs of each individual child.

Competency 008: The teacher provides appropriate instruction

that actively engages students in the learning process.
This competency is referring to the need for teachers to engage their students in
their lesson plans and create a classroom environment that encourages students to
be interested and excited about learning.

Competency 011: The teacher understands the importance of

family involvement in childrens education and knows how to interact and
communicate effectively with parents.
The focus of this competency is that teachers need to be able to communicate in a
way that allows parents to be involved in their childrens education. This is because
parent involvement is necessary to bridge the gap between home and the
classroom. Effective Communications allows teachers to emphasize what areas the
student needs improvement and can allow the parents to help accomplish these
goals.

Competency 012: The teacher enhances professional knowledge

and skills by effectively interacting with other members of the
professional community and participating in various types of professional
activities.
Although teachers spend their days interacting with students, it is also important to
interact with other educators and professionals in the community in order to
collaborate for the benefit of the school district. It is also important for teachers to
be a part of the activities associated with the school to get involved with and build
professional relationships with other teachers, parents, and administrators.

Competency 013: The teacher understands and adheres to legal

and ethical requirements for educators and is knowledgeable of the
structure of education in Texas.
This competency is important because it emphasizes the importance of always
making professional and ethical decisions in order to maintain a safe learning

environment and healthy relationships among parents and other members of the
educational community.
