1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality) being able to help young people and get them back to class is the fantasy and the majority
want to go home and the parents wont get them, if the reality. Parents and the district make the job hard. Children
arent honest about conditions. School nurses arent respected, and is very disrespectful.

2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?
(educational level and requirements) BSN. Ten contact hours each year for license and has to be in my field.

3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities) medication administration, first aid, helping students that are sick, injuries, emergencies,
and paperwork.

4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?
Revised Fall 2013

Pretty confident I would stay if I wasnt retiring. I think that school nurses are going to be in more
schools because of the increase of kids in schools. School nurses are going to still be around and important.

5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?
(salary) paid on the teachers scale and paid by the years of nursing. Not for sure the actual scale. 30,000-60,000
Possibly.

6. What potential for growth is there in your field?

(growth potential)
Only growth is a lead school nurse.
***Questions 7-10 will be created by the ISM student.
7. Do you wish you would have picked a different career, now that you look back on your decision to enter
this field? Yes, I dont know what I would have done, maybe occupational therapy, dont want to be a nurse
anymore. My time is not my own, dont have lunch and all paperwork is all on my own.

8. What advice do you have for someone wanting to pursue the same career as you?
Being a nurse is very rewarding but I think they need to see if the job is really for you and explore all options.

9. Do you plan to do anything different career wise after you retire?

Something but Im not sure at the time, depending on how my finances fall.

10. Do you believe that the public is well informed of the duties you perform day to day?

No, they have no clue, no idea of policies.
