The student teacher planned and implemented an effective lesson on inventors. [1] The lesson engaged students through the use of an inventor box with materials and an activity where students acted out inventions. [2] While student engagement and learning was assessed through discussion and answers, it was difficult to assess individual student achievement of learning outcomes. [3] The teacher mentor noted strengths in the teaching materials and student engagement, but areas for development in better timing of activities and incorporating different assessment methods.

Observation 2 Name of Student: Bedoor Abdulbaset Mohamed Ali Alyas Al Shehhi (H00021298)
Course: BEd
Year: 5/2
Name of School: Mahra Bint Ahmed
Mentoring College Teacher: Mr. Mark Eckersley Date and Time: Wednesday March 8th 12.45-1.30 pm Competency A Professionalism and Understanding: A level of professionalism was shown in planning the lesson and also in reorganizing the lesson when the original lesson time was changed. An understanding was shown of the student prior knowledge, student learning abilities and methods of evaluation of student learning. Category B Planning for Learning: An accurate and effective lesson plan was provided with a table of the activities and the time allocated for each activity. Simple but effective activities were planned for which built on the previous knowledge while furthering the knowledge of the students.
Category C Implementing and Managing Learning:
The identification of the inventors names and the activity of getting students to act out the invention worked well. The scaffolding of the discussion and the explanation of the different aspects of writing and talking about an inventor (i.e. the name, the invention, the year) was linked well to the target language. The use of the inventor box helped to draw the students into the activity. The materials were well made and stimulated student interest. Discussion and eliciting answers from students helped to reinforce the learning.
Category D Monitoring and Assessment of Learning:
You engaged with the students well and monitored their behavior well. Most of the learning was assessed through the answers students gave in class and their engagement with the materials from the inventor box. While this helps with monitoring and assessing the class, it does make it difficult to assess every individual in the class and their achievement of learning outcomes.
MCT OBSERVATION REPORT B.Ed. (EPR)
Teaching Practice Internship 2016 Category E Reflection: You reflected that timing is still a problem. You reflected that the teaching materials and the learning approaches you used were effective.
Strengths of the Lesson:
The teaching materials and the learning approaches you used were effective. The way you engage with students is very effective. Areas for Development: You need to time individual activities better. Focus for next lesson: You need to work on the timing of each activity. You also need to elements such as differentiated written activities to help with assessing students.
