Reading/Phonics
SPECIFIC
OBJECTIVES
TO
MEET
GOALS:
The
student
will
be
able
to
pronounce
the
list
of
site
words
clearly.
The
student
will
be
able
to
read
a
sentence
while
using
the
site
words
to
understand
the
context
of
them.
The
student
will
be
using
a
die
to
learn
and
recall
numbers
represented
by
dots.
The
student
will
be
actively
participating
in
the
activity
as
well
as
developing
good
listening
skills
while
listening
to
their
peers
read
their
sentences.
COMMON
CORE
STANDARD
(General
Objectives):
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.3
Know
and
apply
grade-level
phonics
and
word
analysis
skills
in
decoding
words.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.3.D
Use
knowledge
that
every
syllable
must
have
a
vowel
sound
to
determine
the
number
of
syllables
in
a
printed
word.
MOTIVATIONAL
TECHNIQUES:
I
will
set
the
lesson
into
the
motion
by
going
over
the
spelling
words.
The
students
will
be
motivated
by
the
idea
that
the
lesson
is
a
game.
It
is
work
disguised
as
play.
MATERIALS
NEEDED:
Dice
Worksheets
Pencils
PROCEDURE
FOR
THE
LESSON:
1. I
will
start
out
by
going
over
the
spelling
words
with
the
students
so
that
the
words
may
be
fresh
in
their
minds.
2. After
that
the
students
will
be
put
in
groups
of
4
or
5.
3. Once
the
students
are
grouped
I
will
introduce
the
lesson
as
a
practice
for
their
spelling
test.
4. I
will
inform
them
that
they
do
not
need
to
turn
in
the
worksheet
but
instead
they
will
take
it
home
and
use
it
as
a
study
tool
for
the
spelling
test.
5. Then
I
will
explain
the
activity
and
let
them
begin.
6. During
the
activity,
I
will
be
walking
around
and
listening
to
the
students
reading
the
sentences.
7. I
will
be
taking
mental
notes
of
which
students
appear
to
be
struggling
so
that
I
may
make
sure
to
review
with
them
individually
before
the
spelling
test.
8. After
all
of
the
groups
have
completed
the
activity,
we
will
all
together
go
over
the
words
one
last
time.
I
have
chosen
this
procedure
as
a
work
disguised
as
play
activity
so
that
the
children
may
have
fun
while
practicing
their
spelling
words.
Also
I
put
them
in
small
groups
so
that
they
could
assist
one
and
other
if
needed.
Also
with
the
small
groups,
they
could
learn
from
each
other
while
listening
to
the
pronunciation
of
their
peers.
ACADEMIC
LANGUAGE:
Reading
and
listening
ASSESSMENT
METHODS:
I
will
review
the
site
words
with
the
students
individually
as
I
did
before
the
activity
to
see
if
they
have
made
any
progress.
EVALUATION
OF
FIELD
EXPERIENCE
STUDENTS
PERFORMANCE:
The
lesson
went
really
well.
The
small
groups
were
a
great
idea
for
this
small
activity.
All
of
the
students
had
a
lot
of
fun
with
the
game
aspect
of
the
worksheet.
One
problem
that
occurred
was
that
students
were
very
anxious
waiting
for
their
turn
and
often
got
distracted.
I
think
if
I
were
to
do
this
again,
I
would
have
them
work
in
partners
to
increase
their
attention
span.
This
activity
really
did
help
the
students
better
understand
the
site
words
used
in
context.
