fossilsthathavebeenfoundinColoradoinavarietyofrelevantforms.Aftertheyreadthattheywilltalkwith
theirgroupaboutthisessentialquestion:
Howdothedifferenttypesoffossilsprovidedifferentinformationabouttheenvironmentandorganisms
duringthattime?
Afterwardswellbrieflytalkaboutwhatthenextfewweekslooklike.
Activity:
AfterthediscussionIwilltransitiontothefossilspowerpointtotalkaboutthedifferenttypesoffossilsandthe
informationthattheyprovide.
Followingthatthestudentswillapplywhattheyhavelearnedandtheirpriorknowledgetoactas
paleontologists.Thereare4differentstationsaroundtheroomwherethestudentsaregoingtodigupfossils.
TherearebinswithshreddedpaperandthestudentsaretryingtopickoutthesheetsofpaperIvescatteredin
theboxesthatrepresentfossilsfromacertaintimeperiod.Theboxesalsohavebackgroundinformationsheets
aboutthelocation,environment,andinformationaboutthedigsite.Theywillusethattobeginbuildinga
imageintheirheadaboutwhatthelocationlookedlikeandthetypesoforganismsthatinhabitedthearea.
ThefourdifferentlocationstheyrelookingatisNorthernAfrica(inthecretaceousperiod),southerncanada
(pleistoceneepoch),california(pleistoceneepoch),andcolorado(latejurassicperiod).
TheNovavideoafterthefossilslabisactuallyaboutNorthernAfricaandthefirstdinosaurthatwasaquaticin
itshuntingstyle.Thestudentshavevideonotesmostlyabouttheessentialquestiontheywerediscussingatthe
beginningofclass.
