Specimen dilution guide

1. Specimen preparation:

Stick a barcode label on the tube

Poor a minimum of 3 mL in the tube (first mark on the rack)

Homogenize the urine specimen with some gentle inversions.

2. Exception:
2.1. Specimens with low volume: make a 1:2 or 1:4 dilution in order to have a minimum of 3mL
at the end.
2.2. Specimen which needs a dilution:
*Use only Iris Diluent.
*The dilutions have to be done with a volume of 5mL of Iris Diluent:

Bloody specimens:

Very dense or viscous specimens:

*Dilute to 1:5 (5 mL of Iris Diluent + 1 mL of specimen)
*Homogenize the diluted specimen
*Stick the appropriate Iris dilution label under the ID label
