I.

Introduction
A. Hey do you want join my club, theres just a few stipulations youll
have to accomplish before you are officially in, dont worry it will be
fun!
B. Hazing is, any activity expected of someone joining or
participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or
endangers them, regardless of a persons willingness to participate.
C. Hazing rituals can lead to painful injuries including beaten,
branding, drowning, and forced to swallow a non-food substance.

II.

Hazing
A. Hazing is harmless fun for college students.
1. If youre in a club, on a sports team, Greek life, band,
military groups, and even honor societies.
B. It brings the whole group together and keeps traditions intact.
1. They could get caught and theres a risk of losing the whole
organization.
2. Many liability risks and can make new members rethink
joining.
C. Hazing is dangerous
1. This is the point because it promotes discipline within the
group and bring the whole group closer, it is just harmless
fun.
D. Thesis
1. Many believe hazing is just for fun and meaningless, but
really the amount of injuries and even casualties, cannot
possibly bring the group closer, make good stories to tell,
and be beneficial to the college or organization.

III.

Risk of losing the organization


A. The hazer has a risk of judicial, civil, or criminal consequences.
1. Impact of judicial action on graduate school or government
applications
B. Getting caught
1. Liability risks
2. Contributes to poor facility conditions
3. New members or soon to be rethink coming to the group
C. If any of these happen, risk of losing organization
1. Alfred University banned fraternities and sororities after a
member was beaten to death and found behind creek.
D. Hazing is not fun and its not worth it, why would somebody do
this to themselves.

IV.

Doesnt bring the group closer

A. The threat of being caught is always there


1. Hazing with the worry of being caught can lead to tension
between the group
2. Can drive away new members
B. The hazer has a stressful time planning
1. It is time consuming
2. Conflict with members with different opinions
3. No trust with new members
C. The group always has problems
1. There are many pros and cons to hazing, pros are very slim
compared to cons
2. There is tension between members and even alumni get
involved.

Injuries from hazing


A. More than half of the students on a college campus are involved
in hazing
1. 1 out of 10 students realized they were being hazed
B. Since 2011, there has been 15 deaths from hazing
1. 82% of deaths from hazing including alcohol
C. All persons being hazed are somehow physically and mentally
hurt
1. Decreased education
2. Stress-related injuries
3. Accidental injuries
4. Being kicked and beaten
5. Depression
6. Maiming
D. The injuries and death really make it a serious concept that
hazing is very dangerous

VI.

Hazing is wrong
A. Many believe hazing is just for fun and meaningless, but really the
amount of injuries and even casualties, cannot possibly bring the
group closer, make good stories to tell, and be beneficial to the
college or organization.
1. Hazing is the wrong way and dangerous way to test
someones limits.
B. Hazing is so harmful, and not how human beings should be treated
to be in a club, sports team, Greek life, etc.
C. From risking your future to having fun with your friends,
embarrassment and impressing people, and even injuries and death, hazing
is not and will never be beneficial, it should be illegal.
