Video Critique 2

Grade 1
I completed this lesson on April 19th , two months after the my first video critique. This
lesson was from a unit about three dimensional shapes. Specifically, this lesson was teaching
students what two dimensional shapes make up certain three dimensional shapes. They worked
hands on with cubes, cylinders, rectangular prisms, pyramids and sphere. We worked through the
first two pages together. We used manipulatives to allow students to work hands on and trace the
sides to show what two dimensional shapes made up the three dimensional shapes. Then students
were allowed to work individually to finish the worksheet. I will be unable to attach the video
due to confidentiality conflicts.
Based on the Charlotte Danielsons Framework I am able to pin point strengths and
weaknesses. Due to feedback from my supervisor and cooperating, I feel I successfully met the
planning and preparation section. I was aware of the content and had various ways to present it to
the class. I implemented different manipulatives that support needs of specific children. The
outcomes were stated on a small white board in the classroom. My instruction was clear and
students understood what was expected of them.
For the classroom environment section, my supervisor has pointed out that my respect
and rapport with students is a strength. I was able to conduct my class with minimal outburst and
undesirable behaviors. The students behaviors were managed due to explicit expectations and
procedures.
Instructionally, I think the lesson had its strengths and weaknesses. The students were
comfortable to communicate with me. I asked questions to assess the students knowledge and

didnt give answers away. We change the lesson based on the students needs. In this case, the
students caught on faster than expected. This meant that I could change the lesson and we did
only two pages of the worksheet together and then moved on to individual work. One thing that I
need to work on in this category for this specific lesson is my assessment strategy. While I was
able to successfully understand if students understood the lesson, I think there would have been
more beneficial ways to assess their work.
For the last section from the Charlotte Danielsons framework for the reflection is the
professional responsibilities. I have been informed that this is a strength of mine by my
supervisor. I think this was demonstrated in this lesson. I was prepared and addressed the class in
a friendly but professional manner.
If I was to teach this lesson again I would do two things differently. I would have come
prepared with multiple templates. I originally meant for the template to further explain the two
dimensional shapes that create three dimensional shapes. I meant it as a simple example. When
teaching the lesson, I had a lot of students ask for the templates to work with. While they wanted
to do this for fun, I think it would have been beneficial for the students to work with the
templates to further their learning. I ended up copying the templates for fun activities after they
finished their tests two days later. It would have been a great project after completion of lesson
11.5. I also would have liked to have more manipulatives. I ended up only having 1 set per table.
The students were able to share, but it took up a considerable amount of time for every student to
trace the bases of the shapes.
This lesson was successful in regards to the Charlotte Danielsons Framework and the
first graders successfully learning the material. I still think I need to gain strategies for
assessment to be more successful in the future. While for this lesson my management was much

better than my first video I know there is a lot of room for improvement. I plan to continue in
gaining strategies for management.
