Primary Curriculum Area: Math Measurement and

Comparison
Learning Opportunity Name: How Tall Am I?
Materials/Ingredients:

Blocks or other large nonstandard unit of measure

Chart paper

estimates on chart paper.
3. Students then place the blocks next to their
string and count the number they used to

Learning Opportunity Name: Waving the Flag
Materials/ Ingredients:

Globe or world map *Scissors *Crayons *Markers

Construction paper, Transparent tape

*Straws
How to teach: Introduce- Today we are going to be learning
about different countries. Locate the United States, Mexico,
japan, and France on a globe or world map. Ask students to
imagine they can visit the different countries. Discuss how
the countries would be like the United States and how they
would be different
Present- Each country has a different flag, show the United
State flag and point out the color labels. Show the France
flag and explain that the French flag has a big red stripe on
the right end. Ask why this red strip is labeled rouge
instead of red. Continue with the remaining flags. Distribute
uncolored flags, one per student. Allow time for students to
color their flags, referring to the words on the construction
paper and crayons as needed. Have students cut to the flags
and tape them to straw flagpoles. When everyone is done,
lead a flag-waving parade around the classroom. Use the flag
to decorate the room and bulletin boards
Closure- Share with a friend next to you, your flag. Once you
are done sharing about your flag, please find a place you
would like to hang your flag, and hang it there.

or other toys they can carry in the
wheelbarrow without tipping
6. Let them think of a way to make up their own
course with the cones
7. If they pass they get to have their
Wheelbarrow License (Which you as the
teacher can make one by hand or print
something off the internet!)
