Tesla Motors
Climate change is a major issue in the world today. The car industry, is one of the main
factors causing this issue. By emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, automobiles are
causing our ozone layer to disappear which in result is making the temperatures rise. The raise in
temperature is causing so many other issues in the world today. One car company, however, is
attempting to revolutionize this industry to help the environment. Tesla Motors is revolutionizing
the car industry which will result in positive benefits for the environment in the long run. They
will accomplish this through their charging stations, their batteries, and how they are inspiring
other car companies to produce their own zero emission vehicles.
Tesla Motors is a relatively new car company that was founded in 2003. Tesla was
founded by a group of engineers in Silicon Valley who believed electric cars could positively
benefit the environment and could be better than gasoline powered cars. Even though they have
not been around a long time, Tesla has come a long way. Tesla Motors is a motor vehicle
company that specializes specifically in zero emission electric cars. Zero emission means the car
produces no harmful gas, such as carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. Tesla was the first ever
completely zero emission car and has since built on that car. Now instead of just having the car
they have also introduced electric car charging stations and even a solar powered generator for
peoples homes. Tesla keeps making new innovations everyday to better prepare the world for a
future in electric cars.

The Tesla Charging station is revolutionizing the car industry and is going to save the
environment. Alongside their electric vehicle, Tesla has also started creating charging stations for
their customers. These charging stations are more important than most people understand. As
many people know, a major issue for why people dont want to buy an electric car is because
they are worried about taking trips and not being able to reach their house to charge their cars.
Tesla is attempting to get rid of this fear entirely by placing these stations in as many places as
possible. One source says Therefore it may be the case that range anxiety could be alleviated by
a pervasive network of fast systems capable of recharging vehicles in 15 to 20 minutes
(Professional engineering, pg.45) If you look around in a parking garage in a city you will
already see some electric charging stations. These stations were created to destroy that worry of
not being able to make it back to their house. This theory is already being implemented in China.
A person can drive a Tesla vehicle from the northern most city of China to the southern most city
of china without having to worry about turning around. This is important because people who
have range anxiety will not have to worry about having to make it back to their house because
these charging stations are planning on being all over the world. In Teslas Public Charging
Stations Connect Sothern and Northern China the author is showing the audience how china is
now connected with these stations. The author states The public charging station network that
connects 100-odd cities in the country will enable Tesla electric auto drivers to travel all the way
from Shenzhen, southern Chinas economic hub, to the northeastern industrial city of Harbin,
passing through major cities such as Shanghai and Beijing. (China Today, pg.11) The only issue
with this theory right now is that the Tesla owners would have to drive through the bigger cities
to charger. Luckily, Tesla is slowly producing more and more of these stations and eventually no
one will have to worry about trying to find a charging station because they will be around every

corner. Because of this, the charging stations are revolutionizing the car industry. The charging
stations are also saving the environment. These charging stations are one hundred percent solar
powered. Therefore, they are not harming the environment in any way. If enough people switch
over to electric cars like Tesla, the environment could actually benefit drastically. These stations
would cause a reduce in carbon dioxide gas which is harmful for the environment. This reduction
will is why the charging stations are good for the environment.
The Tesla battery is revolutionizing the car industry and is going to save the environment.
The Tesla battery is a lot different than any other electric cars battery. Out of all of the electric
cars, Teslas battery is able to run for the most miles. My source Its the Battery the author
talks about the Tesla battery compared to others. He states Moving up the driving range to 300
miles is the Model S from Tesla Motors (Milo, pg.6). Milo is comparing the distance that can
be travelled between Tesla and other electric cars like The Nissan Leaf. Tesla is able to travel the
furthest out of any of the electric vehicles. This is truly revolutionizing the car industry. Tesla
Motors has set the bar for miles per charge and everyone is trying to catch up to them. Tesla set a
standard and now everyone else either has to catch up or fall behind. Their battery life is an
example of how Tesla Motors is revolutionizing the car industry. The battery is not only
revolutionizing; it is also environmentally friendly. Instead of having a regular engine which
produces carbon dioxide, Tesla is powered by a battery. This battery means the car is completely
zero emission and does not harm the environment. This revolutionary battery is new of its kind
and works like no other. One of my sources Transatlantic alliance produces 'first performance
electric' car by James Griffiths talks directly about the battery and how it works the way it does.
Griffiths says The zero-emissions Tesla Roadster uses an energy storage system (ESS) unique to
Tesla, with 6,831 liquid cooled lithium-ion cells comprising its 408 kg battery. (Griffiths, pg.8).

Tesla is lastly revolutionizing the car industry which is helping the environment by
inspiring other car companies to follow in their footsteps. Tesla may not even know they are
doing it but they indirectly causing other car companies to compete with them creating their own
zero emission cars. Most companies are typically trying to keep up with their competition. This
is the case for the car industry. Tesla is far more advanced in electric cars and everyone else
seems to be trying to catch up. Not only are Tesla vehicles the most advanced electric cars, they
are more advanced than most of the gasoline powered cars. Teslas can accelerate from 0 to 60 I
just 3.7 seconds. This is a lot faster and more advanced than most cars. Major car companies
such as Nissan, Toyota, and Ford are already on their way with semi electric cars. Then you have
other car companies like Porsche who have already created their own fully electric vehicle.
While it is still nothing compared to the Tesla, it is a giant step for electric vehicles. In High
Performance Goes Green Martha Thomas shows how these companies are attempting to keep
up with Tesla by providing their own electric cars. Thomas states Now boutique manufacturers
like California-based Fisker and Tesla, along with such storied marques as Porsche and Mercedes
AMG, are racing to prove that electricity and alternative fuels can power a sports car just as well
as conventional systems. (Thomas, pg.108) She is showing that other car companies are at least
attempting to keep up with the electric phase by producing their own hybrid sports car. None of
this would be happening if Tesla was not around forcing car companies to evolve. The constant
pressure of knowing Tesla is running the electric show is causing other car companies to join in
so they are not left behind. The importance behind this is that if every car company begins
making their own electric cars, the environment could be majorly effected. People can say that
this is because of Teslas improvement on the zero emission car that has caused all of the other

car companies to step up their own game. Tesla producing their zero emission vehicle is causing
the revolutionizing of the car industry.
Even with the facts that are given about Tesla, there are still people who are against them.
One of the major claims people have against Tesla is highlighted in Selling Teslas Wont Do
Much for the Environment by Mike Ocrutt. Mike states But while having more EVs might
help China reach its transportation goals, it probably won't help the environment, given the
country's reliance on coal for more than 70 percent of its electricity (Ocrutt, pg.19). Like I
mentioned earlier, Ocrutt forgot to mention the fact that Tesla is providing the public with solar
powered charging stations. On top of placing the stations across the nation, they are also solar
powered. This means that no coal plants are being used and no harmful gasses are being
produced. So in fact, Teslas being used in China will not have negative effects if the charging
stations are placed everywhere. Ocrutt also states Electric vehicles could help clear the air in
Chinese cities, many of which have dangerous levels of pollution (Ocrutt, pg.19) Tesla may not
be able to change the fact that the majority of energy is being produced from coal plants, but they
are helping as much as they can. When the world is slowly getting hotter, every little company
like Tesla is contributing to the cause. Ocrutt even says himself that Tesla will help the cities of
China. Another issues people are finding with Tesla is their battery. Tesla cars are currently
having safety issues where the batteries are catching fire after being in some sort of accident. In
Another Fire Raises Questions For Tesla Jaclyn Trop talks about these instances and the reason
behind why they are happening. She says For the third time in six weeks, a Tesla Model S was
destroyed by a fire after its battery was damaged, prompting new questions over the design of its
advanced lithium-ion batteries. (Trop, pg.) This is an issue that majorly aeffected Teslas stock
market and caused them to lose money. People were attempting to say that the issue started with

the fact that the battery was too close to the ground. Tesla immediately responded saying that
accidents happen all the time and cars catch on fire all them time. A specialist said Fires
happen when cars crash,'' said Michelle Krebs, senior analyst for industry researcher
Edmunds.com. ''It's a high-profile company, and the more cars on the road, the higher the odds of
an incident. (Trop, pg.1)'' This is an elaborate way of saying cars will catch fire no matter what.
Another specialist in the same article said one way to potentially fix the problem would be to add
more protection for the battery. He said ''The obvious engineering fix would be to add a safety
shield. With Tesla, there is some protection there. They just need a better shield.'' Simply put,
Tesla does not need a new battery, they need a better protected battery.
In conclusion, Tesla Motors is revolutionizing the car industry, which is in return helping
the environment. Everyone knows that climate change is a big issue in the world today. Tesla is
just a small company doing all they can to stop carbon dioxide emission. Through innovations
like their charging stations and their battery, Tesla is changing the entire automobile industry by
creating these environmentally friendly cars. In a few years or so, everyone may be driving their
very own fully electric car to work. That is only if car companies like Tesla continue to
revolutionize the car industry, ultimately, benefitting the environment.

Austin,
This is a really interesting exploration of what Tesla is doing. You do a good job
informing your audience what is going on in Tesla-related news. Im still not sure what your
thesis is here. It seems as if you are saying that Tesla is here to save the world. Although, that
seems to be a lot to put on the shoulders of a, as you say, small company. So, Im wondering
what other approach you should be taking here. What about other car companies who sell electric

cars? Are you suggesting that people should buy electric cars, and shift the culture away from
gas powered cars? Are you saying that the government should be subsidizing the costs for
electric cars and/or power stations? I need more of a thesis here, otherwise, Im not sure what the
exigency is. For me, your argument is like trying to refill a dried up lake with a cup of water, if
that makes sense. What realistic impact do you hope to achieve with your argument?
