Reflection
My Rhetorical Analysis over George W. Bush's Address to the U.S. was a good essay. I utilized
the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos to help support my claim. In the Address, Bush
uses plenty of pathos in the address. Pathos is the use of emotion or feeling to grab the audiences
attention. Bush also uses Logos, the logical appeal, to better increase the audience's attention
with facts and examples from the terrorist attacks. The last rhetorical appeal Bush used was
ethos, the appeal of prevailing authority and credibility, to give credit to the source that he
utilized. With Rhetorical Knowledge, I learned and use key rhetorical concepts through
analyzing and composing a variety of texts. Reading and analyzing MLK's speech and how it is
outlined with the ethos, pathos, and logos helped to create my essay and establish ethos, logos,
and pathos in my assignment. I also learned how to understand and utilize a variety of
technologies to address a range of audiences such as websites like Purdue owl have helped to
backup any information I needed to better my research and evidence from texts. I also gained
experience reading and composing in several genres to understand how genre conventions shape
and are shaped by readers' and writers. For example, MLK an Bushs speeches were great
resources when I was creating my essay. Reading those texts thoroughly and picking pieces of
information from Bushs speech was a great advantage.

When utilizing Critical Thinking, Reading and Composing, I learned how to use strategies such
as interpretation, synthesis, response, critique, and design/redesign t compose texts that integrate
the writers ideas with those from appropriate sources. In doing this I was able to work on my

assignment successfully and was able to create this essay analysis to benefit from my research. I
developed strategies for reading a range of texts in their fields such as learning to read books
regarding around my major more successfully. When using composing and reading for inquiry,
learning, critical thinking, and communication in various texts, I used Bush and MLKs
speeches. I was able to understand the content better and interpret the information from asserting
the information into my own words.

With Processes I developed a writing project with multiple drafts by creating multiple previous
drafts prior to creating my final draft. I experience the collaborative and social aspects of writing
processes. This means that I used peer reviewing with a partner while also reviewing another
peers work. I learned to give and to act on productive feedback to works in progress by looking
over another students work to make sure it was good and had the right evidence.
When using the Knowledge of Conventions, I had to develop knowledge of linguistic structures,
including grammar, punctuation, and spelling, through practice in composing and revising. I did
this while utilizing peer review, my classmate looked at any misspelled or missing words,
incorrect grammar, or any sentences that need to be removed or added in. This also allowed me
to gain experience negotiating variations in genre conventions to better collaborating with others
discussing grammar usage, sentence format, and wording. I practice applying citation
conventions systematically in their own work in class. This helped me gain a better
understanding of citing my works. Using information from the texts and online resources to cite
Bush's speech correctly.
