Sandra Myers

I am a hardworking, responsible woman with a strong passion to pursue a career in Early

Childhood Education. I believe that to become an excellent teacher you must have the desire to
assist children in the learning process and this is one quality which I feel I definitely possess. My
initial interest in early childhood education sparked while my children were entering primary and
middle school and as a family we decided to open a home child care. My educational interest
was human services as it relates to adults with developmental disabilities, but quickly changed to
early childhood education.
I have found that working as a child care provider/teacher is extremely rewarding. Working with
children and their families has greatly improved my confidence as an educator because I see the
results of my teaching through the kids, and the parents show their appreciation of their childs
learning and development from my teaching by giving of their time and participating in activities
when needed. I have enjoyed the responsibility of supervising children of mixed age groups, and
interacting with children of different cultures. I have become sympathetic, understanding,
patient, and considerate of all children.
My strengths include being a good listener, and having good communication skills which I feel is
essential for early childhood educators. I am a creative person and have enjoyed making
resources for planned activities, and parent education.
I have had many achievements throughout the duration of my professional early childhood
experience. I participated in the American Business Collaboration (ABC) Child Care project in
which I received specialized training, mentor support, materials and equipment designed to
enhance my program. I was chosen by the Department of Family Services to participate in a
science in residency program sponsored by The National Museum of Health and Medicine

Armed Forces Institute of Pathology were kids completed 4 weeks of training on the skeletal
system, and brain, all hands on. I helped to establish a child care association called Kids Village,
and I held the position of vice president. I was selected by Fairfax County Department of
Housing and Community Development and the Office for Children for their Pathways Project to
expand and enhance the day care program. I have completed several childhood education courses
through the Teach Early Childhood Virginia Project, sponsored by the Action Alliance for
Virginia Children and Youth. These are just some of the effective ways I have ensured that I
target early learning opportunities for the children in my care.
I am confident that my training and development in early childhood education will continue. I
am currently pursuing my Early Childhood Development AAS Degree and have a targeted
graduation date of December 2016.
My immediate plans after completion of my Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education is
to pursue a position as an early childhood educator in the public school system, and I will
continue to learn new skills about young children and their development.
