The Fluke 177 model is a battery powered,

True-RMS multimeter which allows it to
give more accurate readings on nonlinear
loads for solid state electronics

Warning: Disconnect circuit power

and discharge all high-voltage
capacitors before testing.
The Meter measures or tests the following:
AC / DC voltage & Current Diodes

Resistance Continuity
1.AC Voltage

Voltage & Current frequency

Capacitance

It is the second option on the rotary switch.

Used to measure alternating current it is
represented with a sine wave. Its range is
from 30.0 mV to 1000 V.

There are five notable parts of this yellow

rimmed multimeter which include:

Display Screen
Rotary Switch
Terminals
Back stand

Functions

The 177 model has seven options on its

rotary switch (excluding the off position).
These options operate as measurement
functions for the device. Each unit will be
shown with a symbol on the display screen.
See Figure 2.

2. DC Voltage
Direct current is measured here,
represented with a dotted and solid line.
The DC range on this model of from 1 mV to
1000 V.

3. Millivolts

Also represented with a dotted and solid

line for DC voltage, it is used when a smaller
reading of voltage is required. It ranges
from mV 0.1 mV to 600 mV.

4. Ohms
Used to measure resistance, the traditional
symbol of the unit is displayed. The option
ranges from 0.1 to 50 M

5. Beeper/Diodes

Terminals
These are inputs assist in specific
measurements. See figure 3.
1. Available for the input of for AC
and DC milliamp measurements,
400 mA and frequency.
2. Terminal for AC and DC current
measurements,
10 A and frequency

Used to find diodes in a current as well as

finding the correct direction of flow.

3. Reserved for voltage, continuity,

resistance, diode,
Capacitance, frequency,

6. Amps

4. Common terminal for all

measurements

This option is for measuring the amount of

current available.

The black and red test leads generally go in

place of their color. i.e. Red on terminal 3

7. Milliamps
Also available for measuring the current
available but in smaller amounts.

Warning: To prevent electric shock or

misreading, keep fingers on the grips
of the leads.

Buttons
These four options enable more actions for
the model. See Figure 4.
1. HOLD freezes the reading on the
current display. Press it twice and
activate AutoHOLD
2. MIN/MAX captures the minimum
and maximum input values, giving a
running average of all readings.
When a new high or low is detected,
the Meter beeps.

3. RANGE defaults to AutoRANGE. To

use the Manual Range for larger
readings, press RANGE.
Continue to press RANGE to
increment the range.
