The Singer Story

Steven Singer was born in Boston and raised in Swampscott Massachusetts. His father
was from Chelsea and grew up in Medford while his mother was from Brookline. They met at a
summer camp in Marshfield. Both were Jewish and were very involved in the Jewish
community. They got married in 1955 and had two wonderful boys, Steven and Rick Singer.
Their father was a real estate lawyer that worked alongside their grandfather and their mother
was a stay at home mom who made it her mission to raise her boys and take care of the family
life at home. Steven was the older of the two and had always been a part of sports teams and did
very well in academics. He always had a passion for music and fell in love with the Motown
error and wanted nothing more then to listen to it and be a part of it.

The Leap of Faith

After Steven graduated from Swampscott High School in 1974 he decided to go to Colby
College in Waterville, Maine and majored in business. After he graduated from Colby College
Steven decided he wanted to take his passion for music and turn it into something more. He and
a few of his friends from college decided to up and move to New York City. It was the
beginning of the disco music error and I started a music trade publication with my two friends.
We reviewed new music and charted new music. We would conduct interviews with music
industry people. Visited night clubs to listen to the latest music trends. He continued this
business with his friends for about two years while living Upper East Side of Manhattan. In this
time he met it future wife Debra at the most famous disco club at the time, Studio 54. About ten
months later he decided to go to law school and move back to Boston.

From Music to Law

I realized that I had reached a point where I needed to get more on a career path. Since
my father, my grandfather and uncle were all lawyers it seemed like a very natural thing to do.
The chose to give up the music world wasnt easy but he wanted to make a change and start a
career. He gave up the skyscrapers in New York for the orange line in Malden after he was
accepted into Suffolk University, School of Law. He went to law school for three years as a full
time student and graduated in 1983 and passed the Massachusetts bar exam He then joined the
family business at the firm of Singer & Singer. After learning the basics in several practiced
areas such as litigations and divorce I began to focus on real estate law. In the beginning of

1985 he began involving himself with a certain aspect of real estate law regarding
condominiums. Between 1985 and 1989 he worked with a developer who built almost 600
residential units in the city of Medford. After working with building and developers I expanded
my practice to representing condominium home owners associations. While at the same I was
representing banks and mortgage lenders for both residential and commercial transactions.

Change in Law
As time has gone on his practice has changed due to the ups and downs of the real estate
market. During the mid to late 80s when there was a strong demand for residential
condominiums was when I would say business was at its peak.
