The Educa/onal Goals for Young


Australians
Goal 1 Australian schooling promotes equity and excellence.

- All Australian schools must:
Provide high-quality schooling that is free from discrimina8on.
Ensures that schooling contributes to a socially cohesive society that
respects and appreciates cultural, social and religious equity.
Provide challenging and s8mula8ng learning experiences and
opportuni8es that enable all students to explore and build on their
giKs and talents.
Promote personalised learning that aims to full the diverse
capabili8es of each young Australian.

Goal 2 All young Australians become:



* Successful learners - Students play an ac8ve
role in their learning. They are able to think
deeply and logically, solve problems in ways
that draw upon a range of learning areas.
Students are also equipped with essen8al
skills in literacy and numeracy and are crea8ve
and produc8ve users of technology, especially
ICT, as a founda8on for success in all learning
areas.

*Condent and crea8ve individuals Students have

a sense of self-worth, self-awareness and personal


iden8ty that enables them to manage their
emo8onal, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing.
Students show ini8a8ve, use their crea8ve abili8es
and have the knowledge, skills, understanding and
values to establish and maintain healthy, sa8sfying
lives.
Students embrace opportuni8es, make ra8onal and
informed decisions about their own lives and accept
responsibility for their own ac8ons.

*Ac8ve and informed ci8zen Students

act with moral and ethical integrity.


Students appreciate Australias social,
cultural, linguis8c and religious diversity
and are able to relate to and
communicate across cultures, especially
the cultures and countries of Asia.

A Commitment to Ac/on
Developing stronger partnership
Partnerships between students, parents, carers and families,
the broader community, business, schools and other
educa8on and training providers bring mutual benets and
maximise student engagement and achievement i.e. young
Australians are provided with opportuni8es to connect with
their communi8es, par8cipate in civic life and develop a sense
of responsible ci8zenship.

Suppor8ng quality teaching and school


leadership
Teachers have the capacity to transform the lives of students,
inspire and nuture their development as learners, individuals
and ci8zens.
School principals and other school leaders play a cri8cal role
in suppor8ng and fostering quality teaching through coaching
and mentoring teachers to nd the best way to facilitate
learning.

Suppor8ng senior years of schooling and youth


Schooling should oer a range of pathways to meet the diverse needs
and aspira8ons of all young Australians, encouraging them to pursue
university of post-secondary voca8onal qualica8ons that increase
their opportuni8es for rewarding and produc8ve employment. This
requires eec8ve partnerships with other educa8on and training
providers, employers and communi8es.
All governments and school sectors need to support young peoples
transi8on from schooling into further study, training or employment
and enable them to acquire the skills that support this, including an
appe8te for lifelong learning.

Promo8ng world-class curriculum and


assessment
As a founda8on for further learning and adult life the
curriculum include prac8cal knowledge and skills
development in areas such as ICT and design and technology,
which are central to Australias skilled economy and provide
crucial pathways to post-school success.
Young people need to develop the capacity to think
crea8vely, innovate, solve problems and engage with new
disciplines.
