Barry Appointed MASCAC Player of the Week

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) recognizes one stand out
student-athlete each week for their exclamatory performance on the field throughout the week.
The MASCAC consists of eight different Division III schools. To be recognized as the athlete of
the week is truly an honor for Barry.
Adam Barry, Worcester State University junior, was named the MASCAC Baseball Player of the
Week for the week ending March 6.
Barry, son to Jack and Sue Barry of Auburn, Mass., is a Holy Name alumnus. Barry led Holy
Name High School to compete in the division I district tournament.
Quiet in the classroom yet loud in the dugout, Barry was an influential leader the past two years.
He shined his freshman year as key hitter in the Lancers line up to aid Worcester State win the
MASCAC Championship in 2014.
Jake Ryan one of Barrys classmates and teammate says, Adam is the definition of a team
player, he accepts his role whether its playing right field or holding his spot in the line up as the
designated hitter.
Dr. Dirk Baker, the Lancers head coach, began his 21st season as head coach. Coach Baker is the
winningest coach in the history of the program with a career record of 463-307-1.

The blue and golds MASCAC Tournament Championship win in 2014 marks the fifth
championship under the direction of Coach Baker. The Lancers also made an appearance in the
NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional Barrys freshman year.
Barry said his most memorable moment as a Lancer thus far is when he smashed a homerun over
Salem State centerfielders head at Lions Stadium to score the tying run that was crucial to the
Championship win.
I have never played in championship games before I came to Worcester State. While here I
have already played in two, and I am hoping for two more, said Barry.
Barry adapted well to the transition to intercollegiate baseball. Barry continued to shine as he
went into his sophomore year for the blue and gold. He led the 2015 team with 36 RBIs. Barry is
currently batting .440 with four doubles, seven RBI and three walks for a .517 on-base
percentage and .600 slugging percentage in the Lancers 5-1 opening of the 2016 season.
Hes been a key hitter for three years now, added Baker. The kid can flat-out swing the bat,
though, I am more impressed by the RBIs he acquires which shows that he is a strong team
player.
In addition to being a vital member of the team, Barry emerged as a leader on campus over the
last year.
A Business Administration major with a focus in management, Barry holds a 3.0 grade point
average and earned MASCAC All-Academic honors.
The Lancers return to action on Saturday when they take on Southern Maine in a doubleheader at
NEBC, starting at 11 a.m.
The Worcester State University Athletics Department recognizes a commitment to serve both its
