OBSERVATION TASKS
Remains calm and shows patience and understanding in the classroom.
Danielle shows a lot of patience in the classroom. Maybe too much. I
get the feeling that Dani is a little tentative about what her role is in
the classroom and that she doesnt want to step on toes. I had a
conversation with Mrs. Price to let her know that she could raise the
teaching responsibility for Danielle which should help get her better
acclimated to her classroom.
Uses classroom management procedures. I didnt see her use any
classroom management procedures when I was there.
Appropriately manages student behaviors. Before I got in to see Dani
give the test the students had to get testing shields out so each
student would have privacy for taking their test. Personally I really like
this option for kids so they dont get used to looking around and
perhaps get in trouble for having their eyes on their neighbors paper.
Communicates clearly with appropriate age-level vocabulary and
volume. Dani struggled with using her teacher voice to give the test
according to her mentor teacher. I feel that once she feels more
confident in her ability that the voice reflection and loudness will come.
Provides appropriate feedback to the students. While Dani worked one
on one and checked on students around the room she was speaking to
them appropriately and giving adequate feedback when it was
necessary.
Shows respect for the students and mentor teacher.
There was lots of respect for both students and mentor teacher. Dani
was familiar with Mrs. Price from the ECCE program last year and in fact
asked specifically for her. She had already spent time in her classroom
so she had some idea of how it operated.
Demonstrates flexibility & responsiveness to the students.
Dani was responsive to those students who needed her help one on one around

the tables as they were working on other independent activities.

Additional Comments: This observation would have been better if I could
have witnessed Dani giving the test orally myself. I had to rely on the
interpretation of her mentor teacher, Mrs. Price, which I am sure was
accurate but none the less I would have rather seen it myself.
Suggested Improvements:
Danielle needs to step up her game to be one of having a lot more
confidence in the classroom. At this point she should have names down
as well as student personalities and they should see her as an authority
figure just like Mrs. Price. Mrs. Price should be able to rely on her being
her right hand person and she should be able to manage her students
and use classroom management techniques through accurate use of
procedures and rules.

Overall score: 80/100 B-
