Post Lesson Reflection

1. To what extent were lesson objectives achieved? (Utilize

assessment data to justify your level of achievement)
a. I think that the objectives were met to an extent. Students
reviewed their knowledge of genetics, but there will several
topics they hadnt covered, so the jeopardy questions were
difficult and almost irrelevant to the review.
b. Overall, the students demonstrated the knowledge on the topics
that I wanted them to understand, but I am not sure the review
furthered their understanding.
2. What changes, omissions, or additions to the lesson would
you make if you were to teach again?
a. I thought overall the lesson went okay. I spoke to my mentor
teacher and we discussed some possible ways to create more
student engagement, such as requiring all students to to write
down the answer on white boards and hold them up as a group.
b. I also had technical difficulties with awarding points for
unanswered questions on my jeopardy game, and creating an
extra group on the jeopardy website would allow for this.
c. Allowing groups to only answer one question at a time also will
keep students engaged and keep them from being discouraged if
they are not earning points as quickly as other groups.
3. What do you envision for the next lesson? (Continued practice,
reteach content, etc.)
a. For my next lesson, I would make sure to be aware of all of the
content students are aware of beforehand. The students were at
a different place than I expected them to be and there was a
decent amount of disconnect because of this. I also think I might
try to make the game lower stakes, because telling students they
are wrong too often can really shut them down instead of
encourage them to keep trying. A different type of review might
be more affective.
b. I also think that I will need to work on providing more clear
behavioral expectations for my students, because I wanted the
game to be fun, and then asked them to be quiet when they
were talking with their group (which may have been appropriate
and I had missed that). I think that proving them with clearer
expectations things could have gone a lot smoother.
