Pima County Democratic Party Resolution Against Senate Bill 1070

Whereas, The foundation and spirit of the State of Arizona and Pima County was founded on the
efforts and participation of Native Americans and immigrants over the centuries;

Whereas, The Native American Cultures have been in existence in Arizona for more than 10,000
years, with the first Spaniards entering Arizona in the late 1580s, followed by exploration and
settlements by Father Eusebio Francisco Kino in the 1600s, and the founding of the Presidio of
Tucson by Spaniards in 1775;

Whereas, Arizona and Pima County was built on a foundation of immigrants who worked hard
and provided the energy and capital to build the foundation of this State and County;

Whereas, Current violence on both sides of the border is being manipulated to distort the debate
for true comprehensive immigration reform;

Whereas, The right of people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against
unreasonable search and seizure is being violated under SB 1070; and

Whereas, SB 1070 is misguided and violates the civil rights of all individuals by enacting a
program of government enabled discrimination, racial profiling, and harassment of Native
Americans, Hispanics Americans, African Americans, Arab Americans and all Arizonans; and
discredits the contribution made to Arizona by Native Americans and all immigrants over the
centuries;

Therefore, Be It Resolved; that the Pima County Democratic Party, stands in opposition to SB
1070 and asks its members to take every responsible action to oppose this legislation and to call
for its repeal by the Arizona Legislature.

Unanimously passed by the Executive Committee of the Pima County Democratic Party May 3,
2010.
