Word count: 794 words

Introduction:
For our experiment my colleague Mahra and I decided to talk about Earth and
Environmental Science we chose The Weather as the basic topic, Rain and Tornadoes were
our two main topics. Our Science lesson and activities are aimed for science teachers that
teach students in the 3rd grade, ages 6-8 years old. While doing this assessment we learned
that you cant get any lesson done without even a slight glitch or mistake happening, such as
forgetting your words, putting more glitter than youre supposed to, and even having the
experiment not work out at all. At first we were excited to start the lesson having all the
materials and lesson prepared, but then we decided to try our experiment before recording it,
I accidentally added the glitter before the soap causing a slight error, I had to re-do the
experiment, and the second time went a lot better. While filming the video we learned about
time management by separating the work and having our colleague record us one by one
while doing the activity and doing parts of the lesson to avoid any errors. It was more
relieving having my partner being someone Im comfortable with, because we can have fun
while doing it and not feel ashamed while making mistakes since we just laugh it out and redo it with more enthusiasm. We used food as motivation keeping it in the other room and
saying that we wont eat till were done with our lesson, it oddly worked out. I think this
lesson is beneficial and fun and gets the students interested and curious which is why were
sharing it with teachers.

Our Objectives for our Science activity:

At the end of the lesson
- Students will be able to differentiate and compare between weather types.
- Students will be able to classify weather types by solving the worksheet they are
given by the teachers.
- Students will discover how rain and tornadoes are formed after viewing and
discussing the two experiments shown in class.

Description of the 5Es from my understanding

Engage: This is how the teacher gets her students mentally engaged and curious through for
example a song, this gets them excited and they start asking questions and gaining interest in
the topic.
Explore: The teacher encourages her students by giving them hands-on activities, this helps
them explore the topic and question, the teacher listens to their questions and helps them try
to figure out the answers together through discussing, they can create new hypotheses and
predictions.

Explain: The teacher encourages her students to express what they learned and understood in
their own words while justifying and clarifying why they think this is true. The teacher can
then start to introduce them to new information.
Elaborate: The teacher challenges her students to apply what theyve learned so far, to gain
more information and build on their own understanding and discuss their information with
their peers and share information to extend their knowledge.
Evaluate: The teacher assesses her students knowledge and skills by asking them open
ended question, or handing them worksheets. The teacher then can see how her students
progressed and what they learned.

How do the 2 science activities fit the 5Es?

For the first E which is Engaging we played The Weather Song after the brief introduction
to the lesson, this gets the students mentally involved and curious.
For Exploring we showed them two simple and easy activities the teachers can show the
students, then encourage them to perform it with supervision these hands-on activities will
show them how rain and tornadoes look like, pushing them to ask questions, gain curiosity,
look for answers, and make up hypothesis.
We used Explaining in the lesson by giving them information on the topic of the experiment
after they are done exploring, this will help answer their questions and gain them more
information.
For Elaborating we let the students discuss and share information they have learned so far in
the lesson with their peers to extend their knowledge further.
For the final E which is Evaluate we provided two work sheets for different leveled students,
teachers can sit their students in formative seating and give them worksheets for their levels,
this seating arrangement allows students to work on their own to show what they understood
without the help of their peers. This allows the teacher to see how far each student
understands the lesson.
