Fundamental Skills Using Parachute Activity


OBJECTIVES:
The student will:
1. Participate in the introductory activity where they will perform evasive skills.
2. To cooperate with peers in parachute activities.
3. Participate in the aerobic workout, which will improve their endurance, agility, flexibility, and cardio endurance.
4. Perform fundamental locomotors skills and acknowledge relationship between the exercises.
5. Practice manipulative skills by tossing bean bags while performing locomotors skills.

8 cones 1 Parachute

-Music for fitness

-16 Bean Bags

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY (2-3 MINUTES


INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES
Do as I do (management)
Have students walk around the perimeter of the gym.
When teacher yells out super children yell out
power and freeze. Once stable, they are to copy
teachers movements.

Army and Navy (5min)


This fitness warm up is a calling game.
ARMY: Run to one side of the gym.
NAVY: Run to the other side of the gym.
HIT THE DECK: Lie face down
AT EASE: Stand up

TEACHING HINTS
Direct style
Reward students for trying.
(Modified jumping jacks, and side to side hop using arm movement)
Players must be careful to wait for the At Ease command before getting
up to run somewhere.
Praise students for effort.

The music segments will indicate the animal movements.
The intervals of silence will indicate the fitness challenges.
Chicken stretchStand up straight
Lift your knee as high as you can.
Keep posture straight and switch.
Frog StretchGet down on the ground so you are supporting yourself on
your elbows and knees. Your palms should be flat on the
ground and your hips, shoulders, and knees, should be
align. Inhale and moves knees out as far apart from each
other. Press hips back.

LESSON FOCUS (15-20 MINUTES)


1. Shaking the rug and making waves
Students move the parachute using two hands up
and down making small rapid movements versus
using both arms making large movements.
2. Mushroom Release
Everyone holds the parachute by their belly button.
When I say Go everyone raises parachute up,
catching air, without letting go. When I say
release everyone lets go of the parachute all at
the same time.

Praise students with a good job and keep trying.

Remind them that working together makes an even bigger


mushroom.

Discuss how teamwork makes parachute lifting easier.

3. Sit Ups
Students sit down with their legs under the
parachute. Them they will lie down and grab the
parachute with both hands and start leaning back
and then up.
4. Mushroom Run
Students hold the parachute with both hands, lift
up to catch air, and start to run around in a circle.
5. Giant Tent
Students lift the parachute all together, step
forward inside the parachute, then they all sit down
on the edge of the parachute.
6. Colors Ahead
Students lift the parachute up. Teacher selects a
color. Students run and switch places with the
same color partner.
7. Parachute Volleyball
Using beanbags, divide the class and parachute
down the middle. Throw in 6 beanbags and
students try to toss them on the opposite teams
side.
8. Bicep curl
Students hold the parachute with both hands. They
put their arms together tightly and begin to lift
parachute up and down.

Encourage involvement

Praise students for good effort.


Encourage participation.

Remind students to be careful with the beanbags.

Discuss where did they feel the tension the most.

Try the activity holding the parachute using two hands and then
one hand.

GAME ACTIVITY (5 MINUTES)


Popcorn:
Throw in 8 beanbags on the parachute. Students hold the parachute with both hands and start shaking the
parachute. Popping the beanbags in the air.
