Evaluation and Critique of Humanist Manifestos I, II, and III
1.

Contradict Christian Beliefs

Humanist Manifesto is totally not an essay which not shows the respect to

religions.
>1. Religions have always been means for realizing the highest values of life.
Their end has been accomplished through the interpretation of the total environing
situation (theology or world view), the sense of values resulting therefrom (goal or
ideal), and the technique (cult), established for realizing the satisfactory. (HM1
Para.2)
It seems make an explanation for the target of religion in this current era
wisely. However, we can extract the main meaning of this phrase: The value of the
life which means to find the satisfaction is the core of religions. That is completely
different from the Christianitys doctrines: Follow the gods words, walk on the
Jesuss path, do the salvation to save yourselves from deeply sins.
>2. Religious humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created.

(HM1 Affirm.2)
It admits the materialist idea to explain the existing. However, bible teaches
us God spent seven days created the whole world.
>3. Humanism recognizes that mans religious culture and civilization, as
clearly depicted by anthropology and history, are the product of a gradual
development due to his interaction with his natural environment and with his social
heritage. (HM1 Affirm.4)
Although there are some people believe human studied for his history and
continually grow up, Christians believe the God gave us guide and intelligence in long
evolution of human society. All the people are loved and gifted by god, then walk on
the unknown world with dangers and challenges.
>4. We are convinced that the time has passed for theism, deism, modernism
and the several varieties of new thought. (HM1 Affirm.6)
This affirmation confirms that all the God are not exist in this world, in every
time, in every thought. God is only the illusion to make up the lie which shows the
humans dishonest of their ignorance. The truth exactly not like that. We have the
omnipotent God and he shows his love to everyone.
>5. The distinction between the scared and the secular can no longer be
maintained. (HM1 Affirm.7)
There is a metaphor in the bible. Different people like different solid, Gods
words like the seeds. The ignorance people never try to understand the words
meaning like the barren solid.

And the people cannot remember the teaching of words, they are the normal
solid. The faithful and hopeful people, which are able to make the seed grows to a
stable tree, are fertile solid. According to the metaphor, the scared and the secular
must have the obviously distinguishes in several places. Not everyone can be Jesus,
not everyone can be the bridge to the salvation,
>6. Religious humanism considers the complete realization of human
personality to be the end of mans life and seek its development and fulfillment in the
here and now. (HM1 Affirm.8)
When the writers try to give everyone a clearly idea to the birth and death, the
affirmation becomes ambiguous. This is the evidence that the author cannot face to
death. He cannot question himself where he go when he dead; He fears the unknown
death will give to his spirit. He tries to use the luxuriant words and phrases to cover
the worries and anxious. In fact, Jesus already provides us the navigation for our
spirits. We have the opportunity to go on the way to salvation so that we choose the
result after we dead. Bible already tells us the heaven and the hell, the land flowing
with milk and honey and the land with fire and oil.
>7. Salvationism, based on mere affirmation, still appears as harmful,
diverting people with false hopes of heaven hereafter. (HM2 Para.3)
The writer criticizes the stupid faith to god and time-waste praying barriers the
step of improving of human society seriously. All the old theism should be destroyed
and his humanist religion will save the people for meaningless salvations. It totally
opposite to Christianity center doctrine. We figure out the finally precious value is
going on the salvation and clear the burden of the sins.

>8. Promises of immortal salvation of fear of eternal damnation are both

illusory and harmful. (HM2 Affirm.2)
It announced that they do not believe or accept the Jesus. They cannot try to
understand the great of Jesus and his promise which give us power. Jesus related us to
God and lead we find the way to clean our sins. He loves us and open a gate for us.
However the Humanist Manifesto adjective it like a damnation. I cannot agree this
idea,
>9. We affirm that moral values derive their source from human experience.
(HM2 Affirm.3)
Obliviously, the experience can be divide as scared and secular. Not all of
them can be the weight of moral values. The Holy Spirit always rely on his strong
faith and beautiful hope. The salvation and spiritual champions are the way to get the
top of Christian life.
>10. Reason and intelligence are the most effective instrument that humankind
possesses.
Only have the reason and intelligence cannot improve the living level of
humans. The bad spirit will use the invention in the evil field. We still need Gods
guide and faithful heart.
2. Ten Logic Flaws
>1. Humanism recognizes that mans religious culture and civilization, as
clearly depicted by anthropology and history, are the product of a gradual
development due to his interaction with his natural environment and with his social

heritage. (HM1 Affirm.4)

Here is nothing but object, the writer just use a conclusion of Humans history, make a
theory that human only studied from the history. In fact it is an Ad hominem to rape
the mind of readers.
>2. Religion have always been means for realizing the highest values of life.
(HM1 Para.2)
We are convinced that the time has passed for theism, deism, modernism, and the
several varieties of new thought.(HM1 Affirm.6)
It has the seriously contradiction: Religion is a tool for realizing the highest value of
life so why we should betray all the theism, deism, modernism, and the several
varieties of new thought? A fantastic tool to find the value of life, why we need to
forget that? We will use it more spread and it will plays a more important place in our
life.
>3. It follows that there will be no uniquely religious emotions and attitudes of
the kind hitherto associated with belief in the supernatural. (HM1 Affirm.10)
Seek to elicit the possibilities of life, not flee from it. (HM1 Affirm.15)
We organize all the religions, mix up all the ideas and minds. We end the old era and
open a new no uniquely religions world. So how to show our possibilities of our life?
The possibilities definitely become a lip-service. It just the own emotion of author, he
states his great dream without any logic.
>4.The time has come for widespread recognition of the radical changes in

religious beliefs throughout the modern world.(HM1 Para.1)

Salvationism, based on mere affirmation, still appears as harmful.(HM2 Para.3)
At the beginning, the Humanist Manifesto plays like a really nice adviser. He seems
will show the truth of religions. He points out it is the time to recognition of the new
appearance and definition of religions. The new understanding can fit our era and
make a more beautiful world. Then he attempt to support the proposition by arguing
for a different topic, making the excuses instead the issue, have a result to destroy all
the religions. The salvation is harmful, so the God is harmful being, so that religions
are the harmful spirit. At first he does not want to accept the value of religions.
>5. Religions have always been means for realizing the highest values of life.
(HM1 Para.2)
We submit this new Humanist Manifesto for the future of Humankind; for us,
it is a vision of hope, a direction for satisfying survival. (HM2 Para.9)
It is a Genetic fallacy and Change the concept. The writer at beginning give us a
suggestion that all the religions try to figure out what is the highest value of life. And
then he points out the highest value of life is the high quality of life, called satisfying
survival. At last, he makes a direct conclusion: the Humanist Religion is the best
religion which can be the instead of all the religions.
>6. Promises of immortal salvation or fear of eternal damnation are both
illusory and harmful.(HM2 Affirm.2)
Here is an Ad hominem. It attack the salvation directly and show the disadvantage to
his humanist religion. He tries to persuade us emotionally. Or it is a self-righteousness

to make reader go with the confusing good intentions.

>7.We believe, however, that traditional dogmatic or authoritarian religious
that place revelation, God, ritual, or creed above human needs and experience do a
disservice to the human species. Any account of nature should pass the test of
scientific evidence; in our judgment, the dogmas and myths of traditional religions do
not do so.(HM2 Affirm.1)
Here is another Ad hominem. The writer tries to prove the religions are wrong. So he
thinks all the authoritarian are wrong, all the creeds the rules the revelations and the
rituals are wrong. However he finds that his explanation is weak and powerless. So he
use a ridicule evidence that they make a test in scientific method. And scientific result
is it cannot prove anything. A man want to use science to prove ancient religion. Then
he makes a clearly logic, he finds out the powerful argument to persuade himself
about the mistakes in religions.
>8.The right to birth control, abortion, and divorce should be recognized.
(HM2 Affirm.6)
It seams the socialism planned economy. In China there is a similar policy
called family planning policy. It is cruel and not Humanism. How satire it appears in
the Humanist Manifesto. The Humanist want control the human like feed the
animals?
>9.The state should encourage maximum freedom for different moral political,
religious, and social value. (HM2 Affirm.9)
Technology must, however, be carefully judged by the consequences of its

use; harmful and destructive changes should be avoided. (HM2 Sixteenth)

To enhance freedom and dignity the individual must experience a full range of civil
liberties in all societies. (HM2 Affirm.7)
In the area of sexuality, we believe that intolerant attitudes, often cultivated by
orthodox religions and puritanical cultures, unduly repress sexual conduct. (HM2
Affirm.6)
This is the biggest lip-service in whole Humanist Manifesto. At first he promises he
will provide us the maximum freedom in entire life. Than he shows the fake freedom
and plays the strict control in every field. Under these policies, the true freedom never
comes back. Whatever the technology, society and sexual orientation, humanisms
power limit us in every part of the life who give themselves the hat of freedom?
>10. Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without
supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal
fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity. (HM3 Para.1)
It is an incomplete relationship. The writers give a new definition for his
humanism: the philosophy without supernaturalism which can give us a much better
life is worth to be chosen. However there is no objection to describe how it can
provide the better quality of life, most of the reader cannot be persuaded, too.
3. Hard Questions
>1. Are the religions positive or negative in your humanist opinion?
The Humanist Manifesto change its tone frequently, we can find that

Religions have always been means for realizing the highest values of life. (HM1
Para.2) It seems all the religions are positive. However some part of issues we can
find: We believe, however, that traditional dogmatic or authoritarian religious that
place revelation, God, ritual, or creed above human needs and experience do a
disservice to the human species. Any account of nature should pass the test of
scientific evidence; in our judgment, the dogmas and myths of traditional religions do
not do so.(HM2 Affirm.1) We cannot make the judgment about the attitude to
religions.
>2. What is your theory to give the completely freedom and effective control
in the same time?
For the biggest lip service in this announcement, whatever the technology, the
society and the sexuality, so I cannot understand the freedom the writer described in
maximum way.
>3. How to open the future with people only work with their experience?
People grow up from historical reason and intelligence, the Humanist
Manifesto mentioned this doctrine several times. However, how we create our future
cities only find the idea from the history and without any future guessing?
>4. How to use the intelligence and reason which cannot accept several of
new thought to make humankind possesses?
The Humanist Manifesto makes an affirmation that our world will be a fusion
world. But in the same time it is unacceptable to theism or other new thoughts. It
already rejected the possibility of humankind. I cannot see the advancements of the

future.
>5. All the heroes who have a great dream to salvation are the illusory and
harmful?
The worst idea in traditional religions is the salvation. However it is not
objections to provide the support, it cannot have an affirmation that this simple but
strong supplication is harmful and waste. Many Heros and great leader have this
salvation dream to whole humankind. It is contemptible to comment the dream
without any evidence in announcement.
4. Counter Argument
>1.The Humanism only gives us the fake freedom.
We cannot ignorance the lip service through the most of the Humanist
Manifesto. A leader try to public his maximum freedom theorem with strict
controlling policies is an extremely ridiculous conflict. In my opinion, we will lose
the freedom what now we have. We absolutely cannot receive the maximum one: it
only provide an illusory and harmful fascist dictatorship.
>2.The zero respect shows to the traditional religions
Whatever the attitudes or ideas are ambiguity in religions, it is the anxious and
fear that the writer has. Cannot make sure the Humanism is one of the religion or not,
so he describes that religions are finding the highest value of life, and shows the view
of: The Humanist is the best religions you should believe. He cannot divide the
Humanism from traditional religions so that he creates his extraordinary method. He
criticizes the them and salvation as not scientific stuffs. And all of his logics come out

without any supporting evidence and objection.

>3. The negative attitude to humans possibility in the future
The individuals future are built on the history. This statement is correct.
However the writer change the order, he wants to explain the history are the
humankinds resource. In his opinion, human will be imprisoned in their pass and
cannot follow the elastic possibility in the future.
5. In Conclusion
The Humanist Manifesto is an announcement with great subjection ideas and
unilateral conceives. It is trying to push down the traditional religions but it cannot
find the weakness point. So the writer put some illusoriness and exaggerate criticisms
to cover his upset and ignorance. This no logics and no arguments announcement only
the appearance of emotional heart.
