Lesson one Day one

Daily topic: Classification of Animals- Science

Objectives:
Students will understand the following:
1. Classifying is a way to sort things into groups to show how they are alike.
2. That each animal is classified into his or her own specific group.
3. What each group is and what animal belongs in that group.
Procedures:
1. Welcome the class and introduce what we are learning about today. Ask them
what they thing classification means. Introduce the topic with a video on
classification of animals. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCm5CcQhUc)
2. After that I am going to show my prezi, reiterate what each classification
means and make sure the kids understand.

3. I will then ask them questions about different animals and see if they can
classify them on their own. (i.e. What group do monkeys belong in?)
4. I will then split them into groups some on the computers, some doing the
paper activity on classifying animals. The students will be separated in
groups of three. They will pick an animal out of the hat and decided what
classification that animal is in. They will create a bubble.us to show their
thought process. They will also work in the same groups for the paper
activity. Both activities must be done before class ends.
