Artifact Rationale: Positive Support System
The Positive Behavior Support Plan was an assignment designed
to offer suggestions for understanding and developing a plan to
change the problem behavior and teach the child new skills. The
development of this artifact demonstrated my ability to assess student
behavior, determine its impact on student success, and then design,
implement, and evaluate supports that positively effect the students
behavior. The completion of this assignment demonstrated the Council
for Exceptional Children (CEC) Professional Standards 1: Learner
Development, 2: Learning Environments, and 7: Collaboration.
The first CEC Standard addressed the learner development and
individual learner differences. This standard states that special
education professionals must use understanding of development and
individual differences to respond to the needs of individuals with
exceptions. I demonstrated this when I placed the individual needs of
the student at the focus of this assignment. This artifact required me to
research the individuals past educational records to determine the
childs ability to learn and how those exceptionalities affect his
learning. During this project, I had to be able to select the proper
behavior support strategies based off best practices, my
knowledge/experience and collaboration with my colleagues.
