Week 1:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Trials and Temptations"- James 1:2-18

Focus for this morning's lesson is on how Scripture tells us to face trials and Temptations.
Perseverance- vs. 3, 4. When our faith is tested that produces perseverance.
Wisdom- vs. 5. Any wisdom we are lacking, we can ask God for.
Trials and temptations are a part of our faith, a part of our faith that grows us and shows
us where we need wisdom and understanding.
After a time of speaking, go into a time of discussion for clarification.
Ask questions: What places in your lives are you being tempted?
What do you do to handle temptation? Do you go to God?
Think about these questions today and come back tonight with some
more thoughts.

Sunday Night Small Groups Discuss the lesson further and break down the Scripture more specifically by highlighting
the verses to be talked about. Break into small groups.
Was there anything else that you thought of after this morning's lesson?
Did you think about how you faced temptation, and how often you are actually tempted?
How does our Faith build from trials and temptations?
Challenge: When you face trials and temptations go to God for guidance and wisdom.
Wednesday Night Activity- "Paint Mine Obstacle Course"
Week 2:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Listening and Doing"- James 1:19-27
What does James say about how to listen and how you react.
Vs. 19: SLOW to speak, and QUICK to listen. Personal Illustrations about when I do the
opposite.
Vs. 22-25: Call to action, do what you learn from Scripture. Authentic Faith is more than
knowing what it is- act it out.
vs. 26-27: What are we if we are not living out the Faith that we think we have?
Question above is a key discussion question. Have them think about other questions:
Why is it hard for us to listen, but not to act?
Do we know what listening really is?
Sunday Night Small Groups Dive deeper into lesson by highlighting the key verses and thoughts.
Discuss the questions that were asked at the end of the morning lesson, allow students to
share their thoughts, and leaders share your thoughts and ideas as well.
Wednesday Night Activity- "Blind Man Walking"

Week 3:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Faith Without Works"- James 2:14-26
Are works necessary for Faith, and why do we need to do works? The lesson is intended
to answer this question.
This teaching is following the teaching of listening and doing. We must have faith, but we
must also act on it, if we don't act on it then are we living out our faith? No.
Use the examples of Abraham and Rahab to further explain this concept, and use those
stories to relate to contemporary stories that prove this.
Faith without deeds is useless, so what kind of deeds build our faith? Students should
explore this question and be challenged to find an answer before small groups later.
Sunday Night Small Groups Are works necessary for Faith, and why do we need to do works? Discuss this further.
Talk about what kind of deeds help build our faith, and challenge students to commit to
the deeds that they thought about, also provide ways to help them live out those deeds.
Wednesday Night Activity- "What's Missing"
Week 4:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Taming the Tongue" James 3:1-12
Our tongues can control the way we act and the way we are perceived.
Our tongues sing praises to God and then insult our brothers.
Focus on the power our tongue has on our lives and our situations.
Ask some questions that make them think about how they talk, and how they change their
words based on who they are talking to.
Are all your words glorifying God, and living out your faith?
Sunday Night Small Groups Focus on the question that ended the morning lesson. Discuss this in depth and leaders
give personal examples of how you have experienced the control of the tongue.
How can changing what we say affect how we act and live?
Challenge students to tame their tongue and see the effects of this practice.
Wednesday Night Activity- "Acting Biblical Scenes- With a Twist"
Week 5:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Wisdom" James 3:13-18
Aim for students to be able to answer what the two kinds of wisdom are, and which is
right, and why?
Earthly Wisdom is selfish, and envious.
Heavenly Wisdom is pure, submissive and sincere.
How can we see the difference in this wisdom today? What are our motives behind what
we do, and what we say? Does it have our best interest in mind, or our Faith's?

Sunday Night Small Groups How many kinds of wisdom are there according to James, and what are they?
Explain what these wisdoms mean and where they come from?
Dive deeper into the last three questions brought up in the lesson, and challenge each
student to provide insight.
Challenge each student to live out a faith full of heavenly wisdom and not earthly
wisdom.
Wednesday Night Activity- "Trivia Game"
Week 6:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Seeking God" James 4:1-12
How do we seek God?
James outlines some ways that we seek God.
We can't love the world and seek God, we must deny the world in order to seek God.
Submission to God is another way we seek God, and resist evil.
Talk about judgment and how it effects us today. Give contemporary examples, like
judging friends, school, home.
Challenge students to seek God in all we do.
Sunday Night Small Groups Explore how to seek God, let the students find this first-hand from the lesson.
Give scenarios on how we can live out the faith, and how we can seek God in our
everyday lives.
Challenge students to make a plan that can help them seek God and deny the world.
Wednesday Night Activity- "Flashlight Tag"
Week 7:
Sunday Morning Lesson- "Power of Prayer" James 5:13-20
When do we pray?
This passage answers the many times that we should pray and when we should pray.
Talk about confession to one another and the power it has with prayer.
Explain confession is not to hold a sin over one another, but to forgive of that sin.
What do we pray for? When we pray, is it for selfish reasons? How often do we pray?
These are the questions to be discussed tonight.
Sunday Night Small Groups Talk about the discussion questions.
Give specific examples based on the lesson in which we should pray.
Have a time of prayer where each student prays.
Challenge the students to pray often and pray unselfishly.
