Director, Immigrant and Refugee Services (Senior Attorney) Catholic Charities, NY. Adjunct Professor, St. John's University Law. Friday April 29th, 2016, 6:00 to 7:00 PM Lowenstein Room SL24H (Visual Arts Complex) Mario Russell will be giving a presentation on selected topics regarding immigration and asylum law. He will then share some of his experiences as Senior Attorney for Catholic Charities, Refugee and Immigration Legal Services. Mario Russell principally conducts and supervises federal administrative and U.S. Court of Appeals litigation for asylum seekers and immigrants. He teaches the Refugee and Immigrant Rights Litigation Clinic at the St. Johns University School of Law and the New York Law School, as well as courses on domestic immigration law and comparative asylum protection/international human rights in Rome, Italy. Mario has served as a consultant for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Hungary and Poland and has advised the National Commission on Migration in Thailand. Mario also conducts federal and state legislative advocacy on issues such as comprehensive immigration reform and other refugee protection issues. Previously, he served as Regional Director for CLINIC, where he provided technical and litigation support to NGOs throughout the United States, he worked as a litigation associate at Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin and Kahn, and served for two years as judicial law clerk on the U.S. District Court. Mario is a frequent lecturer and panelist on refugee and immigration law and litigation at national and regional conferences and trainings by organizations such as the New York Immigration Coalition and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. This event is part of an on going series of presentations in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition What This Journey Breeds in the Ildiko Butler Gallery, Lincoln Center Campus, May 31, 2016 to September 30th, 2016, and is sponsored by Fordham University, Institute of International and Humanitarian Affairs, and The Refugee and Immigrant Fund
