-the eye transmits visual stimuli to the brain for interpretation. EXTERNAL STRUCTURES OF THE EYE EYELIDS- are two movable structures - to protect the eye from foreign bodies and limit the amount of light entering the eye. EYELASHES- projections of stiff hair curing outward along the margins of the eyelids that filter dust and dirt entering the eye CONJUNCTIVA- is a thin , transparent and continuous membrane . INTERNAL STRUCTURES OF THE EYE The eyeball is composed of three separate coats or layers: a. Sclera-is a dense, protective, white covering that physically supports the internal structures of the eye. b. Cornea-permits the entrance of light c. Retina BLINK REFLEX- TRIGEMINAL NERVE ( afferent) FACIAL NERVE (efferent) Iris- is a circular disc of muscle containing pigments that determine eye color. Pupil- central aperture of the iris. Lens- is a biconvex, transparent, avascular, encapsulated structure located immediately posterior to the iris. Retina- receives visual stimuli and sends into the brain
