Three civil engineering students - Faisal Rehman, Khudija Iram Mehfooz, and Muhammad Shahrukh Pasha - conducted a study under the supervision of Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ghumman to analyze the relationship between scour depth around bridge piers and factors like variations in water level and inflow velocity. Through laboratory experiments using a horizontal sediment circulatory loop, velocity sensor, and statistical analysis of 25 data readings under different conditions, the students developed a scour equation to quantify the relationship between scour depth and inflow velocity as well as scour depth and water level.

Study of Scouring Around Bridge Piers
Faisal Rehman (12-CE-11), Khudija Iram Mehfooz (12-CE-26) Muhammad Shahrukh Pasha (12-CE-116) Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ghumman frehman622@gmail.com Scouring is one of the major threat to the stability of bridge piers. Based on laboratory experiments, this project deliberated the relationship between scour depth and various other parameters comprising of variations in water level and inflow velocity. The inflow velocities were measured by velocity sensor. To justify the relationship between scour depth and inflow velocity as well as the relationship between scour depth and water level, 25 readings were observed at different conditions in a horizontal sediment circulatory loop. Collected data was analyzed by using statistical methods and graphs to develop scour equation. Key words: Scouring, Piers, Velocity Sensor, Circulatory Loop
