MAYNARD MINGO COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY For Immediate Release April 22, 2016 Re: Grand Jury Report On April 19, 2016, the Mingo County Grand Jury returned thirty-four (34) sealed indictments. These indictments included charges for possession with intent to deliver and delivery of a controlled substance. The majority of the controlled substances were for Schedule | and Schedule II drugs including heroin, synthetic marijuana, and crack cocaine, Both heroin and crack cocaine are considered narcotics. On April 22, 2016, the Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, the Mingo County Sheriff's Office, and the West Virginia State Police participated in a joint initiative which has at the time of this press release resulted in the location and apprehension of 17 individuals identified in said indictments. The search for the remaining defendants is ongoing at this time; however, we have reason to believe that at least five (5) of the individuals in question fled the jurisdiction prior to capture. Two (2) of the individuals who have fled are believed to be residents of Cleveland, Ohio. When Sheriff Smith and | took office, our drug enforcement program was in shambles, but we made a joint commitment to get it back up and running.
