Community Interactions Notes Lesson Plan (Direct Instruction)

Standard:
S4.C3.PO1. Identify the relationships among organisms within populations, communities, ecosystems,
and biomes.
Objective, SWBAT:
Describe different ways organisms can interact.
Sub-objectives, SWBAT:
Differentiate between different types of community interactions.
Determine examples of community interactions, including interactions between various
organisms.
Evidence of Mastery:
Students will complete a short worksheet that has students explain examples of each type of
community interaction; a score of 8/10 will show mastery.
Key vocabulary: mutualism, commensalism, &
parasitism

PowerPoint, community interactions
PowerNotes, video clips, community

Instructional Input

Opening/Anticipatory Set:
Weve discussed how energy and elements move through an ecosystem, today we will talk about
different ways organisms effect each other within an ecosystem.
Teacher Will:
Present the different types of community
interactions using a PowerPoint.

Student Will:
Take notes from the PowerPoint as
instructed by the teacher.

Differentiation
Students who have difficulty writing can be given the PowerNotes (guided notes) for the
students to fill in. Also students who are unable to write may use a computer to type their notes.
Teacher Will:
Play videos that describe the specific
community interactions within different types of
ecosystems.

Student Will:
Watch videos and write down one
example of community interactions in one of
the ecosystems.

Differentiation
Closed captions can be put on to help those who have difficulty understanding spoken
English.
