Colors Like Me paint colors to create their art.
3. When provided with nature rubbings and playdough, the child with successful press the object into
the playdough to create an imprint with no guidance.

Preparing The Activity

Observation and Assessment:
What interests, assessments, prior knowledge, observations, and/or experiences have you observed to explain
why you have chosen this activity?
I chose this topic because of our textbook. I was reading through the section on incorporating cultures in
the classroom and came across an activity that I absolutely fell in love with. That activity will be my art
activity, which I go into further detail on below. I think that it would be a new and creative way to bring a
variety of cultures into the classroom in a fun way.
Activity/ies Description: What are you doing for your activity/ies? Describe in very specific step-by-step detail,
using numbers or bullets. Write descriptions as if you will be giving instructions to a substitute teacher:
From 2-2:20 the children are playing in free centers until snack arrives. As children finish their snacks,
they will move to the group time rug to read while they wait for group time to begin; which will happen
around 2:40. Mariah or Carlee will direct circle time as usual. At the end, I will briefly describe my art

and science center.

Art center- Painting on printer paper with Colorations, Colors Like Me and a variety of paint brushes. I
will have images of people from around the world in traditional attire that children can use as references
as they paint.
Science center- Nature rubbings of leaves, grass, and shells. The children will place the object on the table,
place their paper over it and use the side of the crayon to color over the object to create their rubbings. I
will provide printer paper and utilize the labs crayons.

2nd Day Changes: Specifically and concretely explain how your activity/ies will change for the 2nd day. How
will you extend and expand the learning?
From 2-2:20 the children are playing in free centers until snack arrives. As children finish their snacks,
they will move to the group time rug to read while they wait for group time to begin; which will happen
around 2:40. Mariah or Carlee will direct circle time as usual. At the end, I will briefly describe my art
and science center.
Art center- Self-portraits. The children will use easels with printer paper, the same paint and the same
brushes. The change this time will be that I will attach mirrors to the side of the easel so that the child can
see themselves as they paint.
Science- Nature pressings. These are very similar to the nature rubbings, just a different take on it. I will
provide shells, flowers and twigs. The child will press their natural object into playdough to make an
imprint.

Planning Assessment
How will you assess your behavioral objectives?
I will use a checklist to assess my behavioral objectives.

Creativity
Explain why your plan enhances a childs creativity:
The children will be using new forms of paint to paint images of either themselves or others instead of the
usual peach color. They also will observe natural objects in unusual ways by creating rubbings or
imprints.
Planning for Implementation
What center or places within the classroom will you be utilizing?
The art table which is located on the south side of classroom next to the art shelves.
The science table will be next to the art table, next to the sink.
