Math 1040

1) The general purpose and meaning of a hypothesis test is for deciding if a null hypothesis
hold be accepted or rejected in favor of an alternate hypothesis. A statistic is determined from a
survey or test result and is analyzed to determine if it fails with a acceptance region. If it does,
the null hypothesis is accepted, if not its rejected.

2) 0.005 Significance Level

Z = -0.8253
P-Value = 0.4094
Critical z = +/- 1.960
Evaluate: Our P-Value is greater than our significance level, so we fail to reject our null
hypothesis. Also, our test statistic (-0.8253) is above our critical region so we cannot reject it.

3) 0.01 Significance Level

t = 8.2758
P-Value = .0000
Critical t = +/- 2.660
Evaluate: Here we can reject our original claim of 55 being the mean, because our PValue is less than our significance level. Also, our test statistic is in our critical region so it would
be rejected
