DESCRIPTION
The K-1 Permanent Cement Retainer is a high performance cement retainer useful for most
remedial operations. It is available in most casing sizes and has a sliding valve as pressure
containment device. The K-1 was designed to function as a drillable squeeze packer: after
cementing, acts as a plug trapping squeeze pressure on the cement below the retainer.
The K-1 modular design allows it to be easily converted to the N-1 model permanent bridge
plug, as well as the NC-1 model for gas well applications. In same way, it is possible by
changing the type of setting slip, to have a wireline set or a mechanical set bridge plug.
The K-1 cement retainer could be run and set by conventional wireline method as well as by
tubing. In tubing method, it could be run using a hydraulic setting tool in order to perform the
squeeze cementing in a further trip by a snap latch stinger; or, using a mechanical setting
tool, which allows to run and set the retainer and perform squeeze cementing in a single trip.
In both cases, the K-1 cement retainers two-way valve is controlled from surface: just pick
up to close and set down to open. Therefore, the automatic closing of the valve when
removing the stinger ensures holding the squeeze under final pressure.
