Here we are explained what are some of the causes that causes hunger. One of the best reasons is the
people that live in poverty cannot afford nutritious food for themselves and their families. This makes
them weaker and less able to earn the money that would help them be less hunger, when children are
chronically malnourished, is hard for them to concentrate. They may have to cultivate crops without
the tools and fertilizers they need. Others have no land or water or education. In short, the poor are
hungry and their hunger traps them in poverty.

This research was done by Isla Binnie in Rome, which gives us some details on how is the hunger and
malnutrition changing. The number of chronically undernourished people dropped by more than 100
million according to a report by the United Nations food agency, International Fund for Agricultural
Development and World Food Program. Government works to improve nutrition. They have helped
the developing world move towards a U.N. goal of halving the number of people suffering from
hunger between 1990 and 2015. But success stories such as Brazil mask struggles in countries like
Haiti, where the number of hungry people rose from 4.4 million in 1990-92 to 5.3 million in 2012-14.

Most hungry people are the rural poor living in developing countries villages in Asia, Africa, Latin
America and the Caribbean. They depend on raising animals or cultivating crops on a small piece of
land to feed their family. Many have no electricity and no safe drinking water.
Many do not own land but work as hired labourers for a basic wage which doesnt allow them to save
anything for emergencies. Often the work is seasonal and the family must move or split up to earn a
living. Without a steady income, they cant supplement their nutrition needs by buying food. Women
are often most affected and those who are undernourished during pregnancy are more likely to have
undernourished children.
Catastrophes like floods, earthquakes, drought and conflict in vulnerable countries force the poor to
abandon their homes and livelihoods, creating even more victims of hunger. Many move to the city in
search of work, which can be scarce and poorly paid, settling in vast slums where disease and poverty
are rife. They produce little or no food and frequently lack the money to buy it.

Children population is one of the most affected ones in the world and this research talks about how
children is affected in different States. 15.3 million children lived in food-insecure households in
2014. Twenty percent or more of the child population in 38 states and D.C. lived in food insecure
households in 2013, according to the most recent data available. The District of Columbia (31%) and
Mississippi (29%) had the highest rates of children in households without consistent access to food.
In 2013, the top five states with the highest rate of food-insecure children under 18 were
D.C., Mississippi, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Georgia.

In 2013, the top five states with the lowest rate of food-insecure children under 18 were
North Dakota, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Virginia.
Good nutrition, particularly in the first three years of life, is important for establishing a good
foundation that has implications for a childs future physical and mental health, academic
achievement, and economic productivity.

Child poverty has reached record levels with over 16 million children affected. One in 13 Americans
are jobless, and many children are growing up with little hope for their future. FRONTLINE spent
months following six children who are growing up against the backdrop of their families struggles
against financial ruin. Filmmaker Jezza Neuman traveled to the Quad Cities, a great American
crossroads along the border of Iowa and Illinois, to explore the lives of children living in the suburbs
of the nations heartland. We asked the children what being poor in America really looks like through
their eyes.
