What Is Assistive/ Adaptive


Technology?
I want to began my presentation with a brief on what Assistive/ Adaptive
Technology is. Assistive/ Adaptive Technology is, "any equipment,
modification, or accommodation that can improve a persons capacity to
learn, communicate, solve problem, or to complete a task through the use of
a computer.(Gunter 2015 pg. 39)

Touch Screen Technology


Teachers can use apps on smart phones and I Pads for children with Autism Disorder Spectrum to help specialize a communicate
device for their student.
AAC Speech Buddy- communication app that teachers can create to individualize speech apps for a child with a communication
delay or Autism.

Speech-To-Text Software
Speech-to-Text software is a great
resource for students with learning
challenges get their ideas down in
a writen format. Students can
simply speak and the software will
type what they say.

Text-to-Speech Software
This software will read text aloud to students. Making it possible for students who
are struggling with reading, which will effect all areas of learning be able to do the
same work as peers, as long as their reading skill are not holding them back.

Tablets Helping Fine Motor skills


Tablets are better choice for students with disabilities or delays in fine motor skills.
Typical methods of writing such as computer keyboards, pencils, and pens can be
very hard for students with fine motor disabilities to operate. Tablets offer touch
screen technology that allow students to use their fingers to write.

How to Choose the best Software


for Students with Special needs
Children with Physical and mental disabilities will use technology as part of their IEP.
Gunter text book gives us a Evaluation Rubric that helps teacher be able to choose
quality software for their students. Using this rubric teacher can score each section
of quality software based from; ability levels, assessment, technical Quality, and ease
of use.

Integrating Technology in the Special Needs Curriculum


Technology helps children with Special needs have exciting activities while also
enhancing the learning for all students. Here are some was to implement technology for
all students:
Graphic Organizing tools provide student with special need visual communications
with lessons. Software to use Inspriation,Kidspiration. Inspirations software allows
visual learners to organize and analyze information, integrate new knowledge and
think critically.(Inspiration Software Inc) Providing students with graphic Organizers,
diagrams, and outlines.

Integrating Technology in the Special Needs Curriculum


Digital Video Editing Software Students can build video clips about what they learn.
This will helps students express their new knowledge.

Digital video editing Software like Power Point and Keynote allow students to create
presentation over research material or books.
Database tools such as Microsoft word, Microsoft Office are software that make it
possible for student to collect organize information in database reports or tables.
