Summary

Goal:

The goal of this study is to implement technology in the

classroom to supplement students learning.

Area of Focus:

My area of focus is in technology. For this study, I used

technology to help aid my students in the mastery of their math facts.

MobyMax:

MobyMax is a website that students can visit to help them with

their math skills. When a student begins the MobyMax program, they
take a pretest to determine what level the student is at in Math. This
allows the program to give the student activities that are specific to
helping them reach the next level.

Plan:

There are many areas of math, and many ways to supplement

them using MobyMax. For this project, I decided to specifically focus
on math facts with my students. For this study I chose ten students
who I believed would benefit from the extra practice with their math
facts.

Resources:

Tammy Wilson 6th Grade Teacher

Melanie Bush Cooperating Teacher

Implementation:

1. To serve as a baseline, students were given a two-minute timed

multiplication test.
2. Select students worked with the math facts section of MobyMax
for 10 minutes each day for three weeks.
3. At the end of each week, students took the same two-minute
multiplication to help keep track of their progress.
4. At the end of three weeks, the students took their final twominute test to use as a post-score.

Data/Analysis

Overall, a majority of the students improved throughout the

study. Three students did not improve, but one of those students
improved on every test except for the last one. This shows me that
there could have been outside factors that affected this childs

performance. In the data, I noticed that a few students had a random

week where their scores did not improve, but by the end of week three
their scores had increased. This could also be the cause of outside
factors that I did not put into account.

Reflection
Benefits:
This study helped me to see the different ways that technology
can help my students improve in a number of areas. It also helped my
students gain experience working with technology in a way that
supplements learning, and sparked an interest in finding new ways to
help them study.
Difficulties:
It was difficult to find an extra ten minutes in our busy school day
to allow time for my students to work with MobyMax. Sometimes this
time had to be shared between to five-minute time slots. We also
experienced difficulties with not having enough iPads to work on. The
iPads are used throughout the day for AR testing, and we found that
there was a shortage of them when we added in MobyMax on a daily
basis.
