I am writing a letter of recommendation for Codi Chua. As the principal at Farnsworth
Elementary, I observed Ms Chua throughout the 2015-16 school year as she interacted with
students and other staff members during her student teaching experience.
Ms Chua had the opportunity to experience the beginning of the school year to see how a
classroom is set up. She actively participated in professional development and had the advantage
of working with a first grade team who collaborate very closely. She worked with her team as
they met weekly in a professional learning community creating and using common formative
assessments and tracking the progress of their students. She demonstrated strength in her ability
to work well with other teachers on her team. As the year progressed, she developed strengths in
the classroom as she became more confident and learned strategies to address some challenging
student behaviors. I observed her effectively using classroom management techniques that
included clear expectations and positive cues. She also demonstrated flexibility and creativity as
she included lots of opportunities for her first graders to move and use signals that kept them
engaged. Ms Chua responded well to feedback and did a great job of adjusting the pacing of her
lessons as her students needed.
I would recommend Ms Chua for a teaching position and believe she has the potential to be a
great teacher. Her willingness to accept feedback and her flexibility will be great assets for her as
she continues to grow professionally.
