ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD. High on team spirit

and a never give-up attitude, summer 2016 seems to be a new
innings for both the Indian Cricket team and team HARPERS
BAZAAR BRIDE! Both have eyes set on gold. Keeping up with
the constant chant for India, we open newer avenues in couture,
jewellery, and dcor to keep you rooted. Temple jewellery, marigold
accents, and traditional saris form the focus of our cover story with modelof-the-moment,Archana Akil Kumar (pg 138), while the nations new heartthrobs
cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actor Hazel Keech reveal all about their love in a
romantic rendezvous with us (pg 60).Take cue from the opulence of jewels
adorned by erstwhile Indian royalty from across the country to build your own
majestic trousseau (pg 31), and dip into a selection of charming bridal extras that are
gilded and gold, and glittery and bold for all your special occasion needs (pg 78). Fashion
meets travel, as we round up the most luxurious properties for your stylish honeymoon.
Designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee to Karl Lagerfeld, theres something for every kind of
bride (pg 116), and then, we present curated gifting guides that would make the entire bridal
brigade bauble-happy (pg 172).With plenty to look forward to this season (big cricket wins, included),
heres wishing you a summer of love, passion, and creativity.

Are you the bride whose heart skips a beat at the thought
of 40s-inspired frocks, embellished knits, and fun prints?
Well, take a cue from Marc Jacobs dramatic spring-summer
16 show in September last year at New Yorks Ziegfeld
Theater, where stars married blooms.Talking about one
of the evenings surprise scene-stealers, it has to be the
designers handbag offering: a sequin and crystal embroidered
shoulder bag, featuring fireworks, stars, and blossoms handsewn on silk satin. Everything is very articulate, Jacobs
says of the dense detail. I was taking the ordinary and
making it extraordinary.A little flowery, and a little flashy...
Whats sexier than sparkle on satin for a wedding? Q

BEAST MODE

Much like Noahs ark, French maison Boucherons bejewelled chest is filled with all
creatures big and small. Renewing and enriching the iconic bestiary that has formed the
core of the heritage jeweller, since 1858, the remodelled collection is a fierce assortment
of wild creatures and dazzling gemstones. A symbolic accumulation of their past glories,
from the signature Serpent Bohme to Hera the peacock, christened after a Greek Goddess,
each piece in the new collection bears the stamp of a rich, jewelled history. Introduced
with new cuts, gemstones, and materials as well as with a contemporary interpretation
of skin and fur, the bestiary is a symbol of exquisite craftsmanship. With over 20 species
including Hans the hedgehog, Cypris the swan, Hopi the hummingbird, and Arctic the
polar bear, each animal embodies itself with the woman wearing the precious gem. n

ACCESSORY, HANDBAG, PERFUME, AND

LABEL? Yuvraj: I love DIESEL. And as for

THE MORE WE SPEAK TO cricketing

superstar Yuvraj Singh and actor Hazel
Keech, the more smitten we are. Singhs
recent exceptional performance at the
Asia Cup with Ms Keech rooting for him
immediately bestowed a new sweetheart
status upon the couple. And from a romantic
proposal in Bali, to appreciating the little
things that count, their relation is what
modern fairytales are made of. HOW
DID THE TWO OF YOU MEET? Yuvraj and
Hazel: At a friends party! WE ARE VERY

my favourite perfume, I like Versace Eros.

Hazel: I like picking up accessories as and
when I see something I likewhether its
from my travels on the streets of a foreign
country or more mainstream labels like
Accessorize. Then, I love my Tom Fords
Mandarino Di Amalfi perfume. And of
course, I like my DIESEL handbag. WHERE

INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHO PROPOSED

AND HOW! Hazel: Yuvi proposed to me in

BR I DE S -T O - BE

Bali. He organised a romantic dinner and

surprised me. ONE QUALITY YOU BOTH

Make sure that you and your

ance know what you each want.
There will so many other inputs,
and disagreements happen. But
at the end of the day, remember
you are marrying each other.

LOVE AND HATE ABOUT EACH OTHER?

Yuvraj: I love that shes so caring. And I

dont hate anything about you, actually
(addressing Hazel). But if you could make
decisions by yourself, that would be good.
Hazel: I love that he has the biggest heart
Ive ever seen.Theres nothing I hate about
you erm (Hazel taking ages to decide), I
dont like that you tell me at the last minute
were going out and then complain about how long I take to get
ready! WHAT KIND OF A WEDDING ARE YOU GUYS PLANNING?
Were planning to do both Sikh and Hindu ceremonies. DID YOU
THINK ABOUT A DREAM WEDDING WHILE YOU WERE GROWING
UP? WHAT WAS IT LIKE? Hazel: When I was little, I watched a lot

of Disney moviesso I always imagined a big fairytale wedding as

a kid. But when marriage became real, I felt an intimate wedding
with close family and friends would be better. WHO WILL BE YOUR
BESTMAN AND BRIDESMAID? Yuvraj: I dont have a choice; Angad
Bedi has already appointed himself my Best Man. Hazel: I will
have my sister Tina Keech-Henderson, and my best friends Bruna
Abdullah and Insia Lacewala as my bridesmaids. COULD YOU GIVE
US A SNEAK PEEK INTO THE CLOTHES AND DESIGNERS YOU WILL
BE WEARING AT YOUR WEDDING? Yuvraj and Hazel: Weve not yet

decided who to go with since we have quite a few friends in the

fashion industry. WHAT COLOURS DO YOU THINK YOU WILL WEAR?
Hazel: Weve not got around to choosing colours yet, but I can tell
you it definitely wont be pink! DO YOU BOTH WANT AN INTIMATE
CELEBRATION OR A GRAND SOIRE? Yuvraj and Hazel: We have
decided to sort of incorporate a bit of both.Weve decided to have
small, intimate Sikh and Hindu wedding ceremonies, followed
by a big sangeet and then a bigger reception. YOUR FAVOURITE

WILL YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON?

HAVE YOU SHORTLISTED ANY PLACES
YET? Hazel: I want to go to Hawaii and

surf, and Yuvi wants to go anywhere with a

nice beach to be a bumeither Bora Bora
or Maldives, and such. WHATS YOUR IDEA
OF THE PERFECT DATE? Yuvraj: Somewhere
with nice surrounds, a nice ambience, and a
quiet place. Hazel: For me, Id love a picnic
under the stars hint hint Yuvi. WHAT
DO YOU THINK ARE THE THREE MOST
IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR A SUCCESSFUL
RELATIONSHIP? Yuvraj: Understanding,

love, and communication. Hazel: Respect,

communication, and supporting each other.

HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN WORK-LIFE-RELATIONSHIP BALANCE? WHAT

IS THE KEY TO DOING IT RIGHT? Yuvraj: You must strike a balance

with the same amount of time at work, and the same amount of time
in your personal life. Hazel: I think patience and understanding is
very important. Also, getting your priorities in order. Although they
change from day to day, it is important to make sure you strike a
balance between the two. HAZEL, GIVE SOME TIPS FOR OUR BRIDES
ABOUT ACHIEVING THEIR DREAM D-DAY FITNESS GOALS. Hazel:
Its tempting to try drastic workouts and diet regimes to get in shape
for the big day. But Ive decided just to be healthy and workout
regularly for long term fitness. You should do the same. AND WHAT
IS THE SECRET TO YOUR FLAWLESS SKIN? Hazel: I stick to the
basics. I always remove my makeup before sleeping, and moisturise
before bed and in the morning. I like to keep things simple. WHAT
ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE BRIDES-TO-BE? Hazel: Id say, make sure
that you and your fiance know what you each want. There will so
many other inputs from friends and family, and disagreements do
happen at such times. But at the end of the day, remember you are
marrying each otherso work as a team. FINALLY, TELL US ABOUT
MOST SPECIAL THING YOU HAVE DONE FOR EACH OTHER. Yuvraj:
She said yes! Hazel: Picking me up at from the airport himself at
4.30 in the morning.

sense of calm and serenity in Grand Palais, Lagerfeld built a faux fashion. Meanwhile, the showstealer for many were the sculptural

Lagerfeld offered a palette of ecru, ivory, sand, dove, putty,

taupe, and mocha to further widen the beige bracket. While,
the palette brought a sense of tranquility to the turf, it was
the silhouette that causes a fashion stir. The starting point for
this collection was the silhouette, declares Lagerfeld who played
with inverted volumesshort tweed jackets with long pencil
skirts, or fitted jackets coupled with full skirts. Meanwhile, the
column dresses, strapless at times, coupled with trains, capes, and
wide-cut boleros, along with embroidered jackets lent a sense of
refinement to the collection. These evening staples sprinkled with
rhinestones, shimmering beads, and embroidered with birds, bees,

brides pre-wedding festivities. Add some satin charmeuse dresses
with plunging necklines, and youre all set to add oomph to
a cocktail event. Adding structural quality to the looks were
the Cleopatra-inspired double eyeliner and the croissant
hair, so dubbed by hairstylist Sam McKnight. On a final
note, Lagerfelds zen-hut opened to reveal models
bridging the gap between ecosystem and fashion. n

Returning to its roots, Fendi
transforms one of Romes
most recognisable structures
on Via Condotti into the
majestic Palazzo Fendi hotel
and maison. A grand vestorey building, the recently
refurbished edice boasts of a
rich aristocratic history, apart
from a colossal Fendi boutique,
a by-invitation only suite, a
seven-room hotel, and
London-based Japanese
restaurant Zuma . Architectural
touches true to the Fendi
aesthetic cater to the whims
of luxury shoppers and the
discerning traveller.

to marry rigorous virtuosity at the atelier itself. Incepted in 2009, the

bag with its versatile style can be carried by hand or slung over the
shoulder, and contrived to suit various moods and aesthetics.
As the Creative Director of Menswear and Accessories, as well as
a third-generation Fendi successor, Silvia Venturini Fendi talks about
the stratospheric success the bag has seen, and its new customisable
avatar. The Made-to-Order service is the emblem of the Fendi
heritage translated into a contemporary creativity. It embodies ancient
traditions that have always been part of Fendis DNA, since it was
founded by Edoardo and Adele Fendi in 1925.These traditions couldnt
be more contemporary now in an era where great importance is given
to origins and roots, she explains. Originally launched initially in
2003 as a premium service for the Selleria line, it has reached its
excellence today as a sublimation and tribute to the Peek-a-boo Bag,
giving the possibility of personalising every single detail of this iconic

symbol of the maison in all its three versions: Large, regular and mini
Peek-a-boo, she adds.
Artisanal hand-checks, astutely picked materials, uniformity of
workmanship, and a myriad option of sizes and styles makes the bag
a precious keepsake for the discerning brideand nothing like a
bespoke bag to treasure, and one that puts your personality into
perspective. One of the key features of the new batch of bags is the use
of the Intrecciato material, inspired by fur workmanship consisting of
interwoven leather stripes in three colours. Red and milk, shades of grey,
and shades of brown. For young couples in the mood to cement their
love with bags featuring their initials or favourite colours,Pick unique
but timeless designs and materials such as Selleria Cuoio Romano leather
or exotic skins like crocodile, python, and ostrich, or even special
embroideries and precious mink fur for a one-of-a-kind object, suggests
Silvia. After all, a memento of love certainly goes a long way.

time I can ddo it. Its near the Centre Pompidou in Paris, close to our office. I
get dressed at tthe gym. Its easy and fast because I wear the same thing every day: a

guy, and he needs his Starbucks, so Ive become half American and have to stop as
well. I love that I get to work with my husband. Christopher is vice president of global commercial and
merchandising development at Pierre Hardy. 10:00 A.M. What is your typical day? is the most complicated question because its always different. The first thing I do at the office is say hello to everyone and do a
quick survey of what is happening. I have an espresso or two; its very European. When Im at Herms I work
with the jewellery and shoe departments. I have a big team therearound 12 people, compared with three at
my studioso everything is very organised. Because I dont go to Herms every day, each minute is focussed
on every level of the collection: the leather choices, the colour range, the prints. For my own collection, I have
more flexibility, which allows me to revisit ideas and options. 1:30 P.M. At my studio, we dont have a salad at
our desks for lunch; we go out. Sometimes we go to Caf de Flore. Its like a daytime nightclubyou see
everybody and say helloand Ill have an endive gratin that I love. 3:00 P.M. I have another espresso.
Anything can inspire me. I recently saw the Anne Truitt exhibition in New York.Theres an amazing mix of
simplicity and sophistication in her work. I studied fine art as a student; I was going to be a painter. 5:00
P.M. In the office, I sometimes need to be alone and just think. Usually I sketch at home, not at work.
I love to sketch. I can draw anywheremy bed, the couch, the dining tableand I dont need to have
specific paper or pen. 9:00 P.M. Christopher and I go home, but its always too late to cook.
Theres a good Italian restaurant downstairs from our apartment, so we have a light salad and
prosciutto and a glass or two of wine. 10:30 P.M. After dinner well watch a movie, but I
also love to read. I just read All That Is by James Salter. It was very beautiful. 12:30
A.M. I have no nightly routinea routine is the most boring thing in life. The
reason Ive been doing my job for so long is because no two days are ever
the same. Thats why I love it. The concepts can be similar, but the
way youre doing it makes each day different from the last,
and I feel very lucky. As told to Tara Lamont-Djite.

couple shared a period of crucial long distance
relationshipthe second round of which
actually made Samir go down on his knees.
Talking about her wedding, Khushi beams,The
wedding was everything I wantedsuper
warm and filled with great energy and oodles
of love. Khushi had planned every bit of the
ceremony and outsourced only the execution.
When asked about her favourite function, she
quickly says, It has to be the mehendi! It
was the perfect blend of vibrancy, enthusiasm,
great food, rolling music, and crazy dancing,
she adds. Serenaded by families and friends
from both sides, it could not have been more

the fun! There were a string of events, and for
all of that, a lot of referencing was done before
finalising the elements. Khushis favourite outfit
was the ivory white Sabyasachi lehenga. The
makeup was done by Elton Fernandes, who
kept the look highly minimal and contemporary.
The ceremony took place in the Grand Hyatt

Whether youre wearing a

regal mooch or a royal beard for your
big day, remember, this commitment like all
others, comes with a lot of upkeep. To start with,
you need to stop shaving for a minimum of four weeks
before the D-day! There on... all you have to do is invest
in a good trimmer and start shaping the stubble. Design the
cheek line and the neck lineto define the limit of your fuzz.
And the sideburns or the mutton chops! However, once theres
a good crop, use the trimmer to groom and trim it to the length
you can manage. Use a beard shampoo, followed by a beard
oil to hydrate the skin, soften, and tame the beard hair. If
youre planning a long beard, use boar bristle brush to get
rid of tangles, which means it also does double-duty as
a styling agent. Dont forget moustache wax as it is
a mustto quickly twirl, twist, and style your
whiskers and ensure the hair is in place.

PARADISE FOUND IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

A native of Dominican Republic himself, late designer Oscar de la Renta

held the region always close to his heart. Puntacana Resort & Club itself
dates back to 1971 and now encompasses expansive estates which includes
the Tortuga Bay Hotel. In 1997, the designer joined the group as a coinvestor and since then, this has sort of become a second home for him
where he also maintained his own residence within. It was of course natural
that Oscar de la Renta left his touch on this community, and his effortless
passion for design came to life when he was called upon for redesigning
the quarters of Tortuga Bay. A refurbished debut in 2014 brought about his
signature touches through clean, crisp furnishings, natural materials such
as wicker, rattan, and mahogany, and sunburst yellow wrapping it all up in
a scenic display of happiness. Most certainly his vision of what the perfect
Dominican life should be like. And not just within the living spaces, the
designer also worked his magic on their restaurantBamboothat offers
fusion dishes with Mediterranean influencesamidst a cozy setting perfect
for a date night over fresh seafood. Additionally,Tortuga Bay features Oscar
de la Rentas first resort wear boutique, a 1,000-square feet store tucked
between the villas, and offering all his lines of chic goodies. The best part?
The boutique carries inspired jewellery by him exclusive to the location;
no doubt mementos we want and covet.

her sense of style. Diane von Furstenberg has kept
a residence in the property since the 70s, and her
mastery in fashion has seamlessly transitioned into
this one-of-a-kind suite on which she collaborated
with friend and interior designer Olivier Gelbsmann.
The expansive space features marble fireplaces, handcrafted and selected furniture, and Chinese and
animal printed furnishings all around. Whats more,
an extremely personal touch is presented through
the walls that are adorned by photography by the
designer taken during her travels through Europe and
Asia. The whole project came along when DVF did
a line inspired by the grand lobby of Claridges. And
having called it her home away from home for more
than 30 years, it was an apt ode to revamp and refresh
the spaces and at the same time, preserve the classic
Claridges style and grandeur. Besides the suite, she
has designed a whole set of rooms that each feature a

Another Caribbean star on our list this month

is Round Hill Hotel and Villas, Montego Bay.
Round Hill has a long legacy and was originally
a part of a Lords estate. A sugarcane plantation
that later grew coconuts and pimento, the fertile
soil also produced pineapple in abundance. And
hence the pineapple became a part of the history,
and even features in the logo of Round Bill
besides being scattered throughout the property
in one form on another. Pineapple House (but
obviously) here, features ocean-front living, and
a total of 36 rooms were carefully redesigned
under the watchful eye of designer Ralph
Lauren. Lauren, who also owns a private home
within the resort has tried to keep it minimal yet
very chic, and each room evokes his signature
style juxtaposed against classic a Jamaican
feel. White stone floors, romantic four-poster
mahogany beds, and upholstered furniture from
the designers home collection create a light and
airy ambience perfectly complementing views
of Round Hills bay and underwater reef. From
cathedral ceilings to intimate patios, the rooms
present contemporary island dcor and living,
and it would be extra special to join their long
list of illustrious guests that includes names
such as Kennedy and Hitchcock. As for your
honeymoon here, nothing like the sea, the sun,
laid back culture, and scenic splendour for an
indulgent, blissful beginning.

THE

SARI
SENTIMENT

Revisiting the story of the nine yards, that

bridal saga, as it is both nostalgia for the past
as well as the fresh new love of our times.
By SANHATI BANERJEE

PlayClan for Ekaya

Shantanu & Nikhil

From the formal, to the handloom, and the bridal,

Gaurang

hats India without the sari? The idea,

the imagery, and the imagination that
surrounds the sari are phenomenal.The
sari is as much the protagonist of our
cultural history, as it is of our
contemporary fashion narratives. Take your pick from the
formal sari, the handloom revivalist sari, the bridal staples
of banarasis and kanjeevarams, and even the digitally-printed
sari, finally, to the nouveau silhouettes of the sari-gown that
draws upon the idea of a sarithe diversity that the drape
brings to the table is incomparable. It has endured the forces
of time, and in that sense,it is one of the few oldest surviving
drapes across the globe, like the Japanese kimono dress,
point out designers Shantanu & Nikhil. It is like a canvas
for dynamic artistic representations. For the feminine to the
feminist, for the bride to the mother of the bride, and for
the corporate pro to the artsy tribeit exists as one of the
metaphors for India that speaks in the current localised
idiom and yet exudes sentimentality. From the branding
aspect, it instantly sells an imagery and idea of India to a
cross-section of a global audience. In it, survives a whole
corpus of heritage art and crafts, handloom weaves, bling
and beauty, even as it lends itself to being romanced by
modern creators. What makes the sari a classic? Well, as per
definition, a classic is something that remains unaffected by
time. A classic is also something that remains relevant to our
times. By that definition, the sari is a classic. It is our symbolic

SARI IS A METAPHOR FOR INDIA,

and, the romance with this eternal drape continues.

past in a metaphorical sense, but its elements will remain popular in the
future as well. As he confronts the experimental streak in modern saris,
Prabodh Jain, owner of Sarangi, asserts, Anything that is a superfluous
addition to the core of the sari is unnecessary and detached from the
intrinsic beauty of the drape. However, he does point out a curious
case of cultural exchange that has informed the native sari over a period
of time. For instance, the paisley pattern was at one point of time,
unknown to the aesthetics of the native kanjeevaram, and definitely not
found in the surrounding temple art. However, references from Banaras,
and particularly the paisley, gained momentum in the kanjeevaram art,
as interactions with artisans and weavers from Banaras as well as
representatives from royal and elite families who would come down
South to commission an order for a kanjeevaram, influenced the native
form. And, the paisley got incorporated into the local canvas. So a classic
also allows for mobility in design and thus gets a new lease of life.Talking
about the kanjeevaram, Jain says, It is both feminine and strong. The
kanjeevaram is definitely not a demure drape, it is in fact, best known
for bold designs. A strong colour contrast is its hallmark.Think an ochre
sari with deep blue border, or an off-white
one with maroon or gold border. The motifs
are also powerful like the rudrakshas, horses,
and elephants, as opposed to gentle creepers.
As a bridal investment, the kanjeevaram,
can also be re-used as an accessory after
the wedding ceremony, with a little use of
your imagination. Founder of the label,
Gaurang, designer Gaurang Shah, says, A
classic sari is a hand-woven masterpiece that
can be handed down to generations and that
strikes a chord with your family history. In a
way, it documents your family history and
Nalli Silks
preserves memories in its contours like no
other.Talking about cross-cultural influences
that enrich the traditional weave, Shah says,We weave traditional paithani
motifs from the 16th century in khadi woven in Andhra Pradesh.Through
this, we achieve a wide variety in the traditional jamdani weave. It strikes
a balance between age-old tradition and contemporary texture. For
Shah, the revivalist, the Tree of Life motif inspires him eternally, even as
he weaves it in khadi, uppada, paithani, kota, banarasi, using the jadani
weaving technique, and works closely with khadi weavers from Andhra
Pradesh. For the bride, he recommends,A jamdani woven sari is a must
for the trousseau. A paithani is perfect for the bride who wants to look
royal, while the khadi jamdani would define a bride who wants to be
subtle and sophisticated. A double ikat patan patola is a riot of colours
and is apt for mehendi!
Commenting upon the idea of the sari as the classic framework or
moodboard for India, Bharat Shah, founder of Ekaya, says, Picture the
traditional art and aesthetics of India, its festivals, and the ceremonies.
You can see the relevance of the sari in the surrounding moodboard.
Also, traditional Indian jewellery is best complemented by the sari.
About the classic sari as the canvas for cross-cultural art, he says,Sample
the banarasi. The base is silk, and upon it, a variety of impressions can
be etchedmotifs from the valley of Kashmir, to French and Italian art
forms, thus establishing its concept as an eclectic canvas. The saris at
Ekaya are handcrafted and their recent PlayClan saris in collaboration

with Archana Rao, saw Turkish-Arabic art on banarasis.

The modern romance with saris retains the soul, concept, idea, and
imagery of the sari but reimagines it anew, in futuristic forms. So the
silhouette even though it reminds one of the sari, is something that
morphs into a new form altogether to carve its own identity. It is
definitely not a shadow of the sari, but a soul sister of sorts, that has
its flair, form, and functionality. Designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil
famous for their cocktail wear collections, say that the sari-gown rules
the cocktail wear segment. The sari-gown draws from the reference
of a sari, but the drape lends modernity to its form. It is a concept
drape, inspired from the purity of the classic drape. It accentuates the
shoulder and falls from the waist. The future of sari-gowns is the
pallu-free versions that we have created this seasonthe more fitted
and corset-like look they say. Sanya Dhir, creative director, Divani
says, The unique art of hand paints has been amalgamated into the
six yards of canvas drawing inspiration from nature in our latest springsummer collection. These heirlooms are a part of the long-lost heritage
of our country. These pure zari and pure silk pieces are eternal. Divani
supports hand painting techniques, rather than digital printing ones,
these are all done by women artisans using
brush strokes and thumb painting manually
to ensure that painting on the garment is
done by hands using utmost accuracy. It is
a nod to sustainable craft. Fashion maven
Gaurav Gupta points out, Clearly, there
are two strands across the sari spectrum.
One is the back to textile-roots handwoven movement, and the other is a
romance with the essence or the nuances
of the sarithat is, the modern sari
movement. The modern sari is a reflection
of the times that we live in, and it signals
a movement towards androgyny. The
sari-gowns with peplum jackets, long
jackets, and capes mirror a movement towards a structured look and
sharp sensibility. Sonaakshi Raaj says, Gen-next is all about saving
time, everyone is about doing smart work than hard, my concept sari
is based on that. My labels sari is a zip away. Zipping up is not the
only twist to it; there are different drapes that add to the innovative
silhouette of my creation. I recommend brides to go for traditional
with a twist, like a dhoti saree, or a merger of lehenga, and a sari with
a sexy cut-out blouse. Jewel tones like emeralds, topaz, and oxblood
reds are the standard colours along with nude, aqua, lime green, and
lavender. Get as experimental as you want to with colours.
Modernists would argue that a classic bridal sari is one-time wear.
To this Gaurang Shah responds,A sari can be draped in various ways,
and styled differently for umpteen occasions, ranging from the wedding,
to the friends sangeet, to a cocktail party. A sari handed down by a
mother to her daughter would be worn differently by the daughter,
thereby lending a new personality to the sari. The blouse, which is
a revolution in itself in todays times, adds a lot to the way is sari is
worn and styled. Krishna Aroop, owner, Laffaire says, A classic sari
is forever. And, the cotton-sari-khadi weaves transcend all trends. A
brocade banarasi or kinkhab is his recommendation to the bride.
Seems like the sari is going to leave us much for our musings.
