Space Exploration (revision)

Space exploration is a fairly new concept to the human race which includes discovering
other intelligent life and materials. The first source, A, argues the idea of space exploration being
an endeavor worth perceiving as it can provide intelligence that the human race can benefit from.
But, Next, source E declares that the protection of each other and therefore the stopping of war
should be pursued before we leave our original habitat of Earth, through the utilization of logos.
Lastly, source F and its persuasive diction employs that the universe has more danger than us
humans can handle. With only 5% of the ocean floor being reached and studied, there are more
matters we must attend to on Earth before our departure. Thus, the pursuance of space
exploration is worthless simply for the fact that the process could lead to unwanted costs and
safety concerns for all of the human race.
Source As argument of space exploration is incorrect because while they point out that
intellectually space travel and research is worth it, the cost of such endeavors outweigh the
possible discoveries. The writer asserts his/her position by exclaiming that the possibility of
future ...manned space exploration is absolutely worth the cost, of any monetary value because
science is ultimately more important (Source A). However, it should be pointed out that the

research may or may not even be helpful to us in the end as, for example, life millions of light
years away may be found but cannot fully understood due to possible biochemical make-ups.
Also, the U.S. is in a national debt of about $15 trillion dollars, and that number will continue to
rise, and even more so if we spend revenue on space travel over domestic policy or even
environmental protection. On the note of environmental protection, with the temperature of the
globe increasing by around 2 degrees Celsius, on average, every year since 1980, money should
be spent to counteract the wrong-doings of man-made emissions. Also, we may get so excited
about discoveries that we find that funds from other programs would get cut, like defense or
education. The burden that unnecessary spending (on space exploration) will create can yield
economic unsettlement that disrupts the lives of every person in this country. The resulting
spending could plummet the economy into another deficit that people could not handle again as
many homes and jobs were lost, this cannot happen again, at least for awhile. The harm this
spending would cause is more impactful than the possible benefits, ergo space exploration should
not be pursued.
Next, source E discusses the need for worldwide peace before we go off into the universe
through the use of logos. The author makes an interesting point with a statement that is widely
accepted as truth because, ...we would do well to remember that we do not have a very good
track record in protecting our home planet, Earth, whether it be environmental damage or
physical or even psychological damage to one another throughout the course of our time here.
(Source E). The logos explored here cleverly uses common sense in that we are prone to human
versus human violence whether it be the Trojan war, or even a more recent altercation such as
World War II. It has been reported that the world is in the most peaceful state it has ever been in

(in terms of world-wide confrontations). However, these massive quarrels bring space
exploration into perspective, the possibility of running into life thats militarily superior is quite
likely, given the infinite space that the universe holds. However, wars always end, and new ones
arise, in the event of extraterrestrial life we are likely to find ourselves in even more warfare than
we could imagine, between ourselves and new life. Also, if people were to learn about life
outside of Earth, many would panic which would hurt the minds of US citizens due to the fear of
the unknown. Logos used by source E asserts that we should stop fighting each other before we
dare to try and get in a conflict with other unknown intelligence.
Finally, source F uses persuasive diction to employ the danger that is out there and to
warn against what we cannot control. This author tries to explain how behind we may be in terms
of weaponry and that, Because extraterrestrial life may exist, planetary exploration could bring
trouble if people are not careful enough, (source F). The persuasive diction in this article lies
with the word careful, it is obvious that we will be careful, but the author is pointing out that
with life one can never be careful enough. Due to their possible advancements, a mass genocide
of humans could follow and wipe us into oblivion. Also, if contact occurs the jeopardization of
mans psyche could be catastrophic. Trouble is merely an understatement with the possible
consequences such as the conquering of everything the human race has fought for. Life is a
variable with no limit, nobody will be able to control us, let alone life of other galaxies, the
concept of being careful just is not enough. Including that fact, exploring the bottom of the ocean
floor is extremely dangerous in itself and we have yet to study all of it, so other planets can yield
even more threatening discoveries. Hence, the utilization of persuasive diction employs the

uncertainty of other life and how we can never be careful enough when dealing with such
organisms.
Space Exploration is a worthless endeavor in the end as we may or may not find what
were looking for, but we will spend an atrocious amount of money that we need here on Earth.
That is what source A argues, money should be spent elsewhere such as domestic policy. Source
E advocates world peace over planetary settlement because our track record is not adequate in
getting along with each other. Lastly, source F and the clever use of persuasive diction reminds
us that life is uncontrollable and we shouldnt attempt to control it. The new concept of space
exploration for materials and life will result in grave consequences.
