Today were putting the finishing touches on our spreadsheets topic by adding charts to our data
collection, First we will review some of the key concepts we covered when we were together last
lesson, and talked about using formulas in excel.
Learning Activity One: Adding Charts and Graphs to Weather Research Projects
1.Teacher Actions/Instructions/Tasks
a. What information must students know to get started?
How to insert a chart
b. Detail teacher actions/instructions to prepare students for success with this activity

1)

Your first step is open up your assignment entitled Spreadsheet Assignments.

2)

Your next step is to rename worksheet # 10 so that it is called Assignment # 11.

3)

You will once again copy the entire contents of your previous worksheet and paste them
into your new worksheet entitled Assignment # 11 where you will be manipulating it.

4)

You will be graphing the average daily temperatures that you calculated last day. You
will be creating 2 graphs, one to depict the average daily temperatures in Celsius, and one
to depict the average daily temperatures in Fahrenheit.

**Make sure to use the right type of graph based on the information that you have
gathered.
5)

Once you have properly inserted your graph, you must rename the x and y axes
appropriately. You are also expected to give your graph a title that effectively represents
your findings and calculations.

6)

Format your graph using colors and different effects.

7)Once you have completed steps 1-6, remember to save all changes that you have
made to your workbook. Once you have saved all changes, upload your file to moodle for
grading.

c.

1-5 bullet items go a long way here to clarify what students need to know to complete this activity:

How to highlight a range of cells for the purposes of creating a visual representation of the
data collection
Coping the entire contents of their previous data collection into a new worksheet keeping the
formatting
Creating visual charts using the average we calculate in the previous assignment
Visual charts are an effective way to present data collections

2.Student Actions/Responsibilities/Tasks
a. What will students write/do/say during this activity?

Student will create a visual chart from the data collection they have recorded in previous assignments
Assessment for Activity One (IMPORTANT: attach all assessment devices associated with this lesson
plan)
Purpose: Diagnostic/Formative/Summative
Modality: Write/Do/Say
Assessor: Self/Peer/Teacher
Device/Tool/Instrument: Rubric
The Rubric is used to assess student learning to provide evidence that students have met the desire
outcomes from the culminating task. Students may have exceled in different aspects of working with
Microsoft excel. The rubric allows me to monitor students areas of strength, and to differentiated my
further teacher lesson to meet these students learning styles

previous and future
learning within the Module)

Lesson
Reflection
What worked well? Why?
What didn't? Why not?
What will you do differently
next time to achieve a
better result?

Next Lesson we will begin our digital presentations unit. We will work with programs such as Microsoft
Powerpoint, Prezi, and Google Slides.
