Prior Knowledge required:


This lesson is geared to take place at the end of the unit so most information will have been
taught or researched.
In previous lessons students will have learned and researched the interactions between First
Nations and Europeans. They will also research major events between the two groups and how
this affected them. They will have looked at perspectives during those major events and how
each group faired during them.
Assessment Tasks:
- Students will model interactions and
perspectives that have been researched
between the First Nations and Europeans by
creating a twitter discussion
- Students will create a brief summary stating
how their discussions accurately portrays
those from history
- Create 1 appropriate hashtag

Assessment Tools/Instrument:
- twitter

Teaching/Learning Strategies and Planning Notes:


TIME: 50 min
Rules and Regulations as to what is appropriate to place on social media will be made clear
Even though the students are not posting as themselves, they must be made aware of the
dangers of social media - THINK
No cursing, derogatory comments
No personal pictures

Step by Step Instructions:


1. Twitter argument (10 mins)
As a class we will look at a current political argument or debate on twitter
We will comment on the length and amount of detail within the posts
We will look at how feelings and perspectives can be portrayed through text

2. Create a Twitter Discussion (30 mins)


In groups of 4-5 students
Each student will create a twitter portraying either a First Nation or European, group must be
divided equally
The groups will choose a major event that took place creating a conflict or solution between
the two groups
Groups will model what this major event would have looked like in a modern world where
social media is a key player
Within the groups students will make twitter posts and create discussions that highlight key
interactions between the two groups
Each group will have to portray the perspectives of First Nations and Europeans accurately
through the twitter posts
Use appropriate twitter standards as well as create a minimum of 1 hashtag
3. Summary (10 mins)
Each group will create a brief summary of how their twitter interactions accurately portrayed
those of the First Nations and Europeans

Modifications/Adaptations:
If students require assistance with typing it will be provided for them
