Give Me Direction Design Brief

Background

The universal systems model consists of input, process, output, and feedback.
The stability of a technological system is influenced by all of the components in
the system, especially those in the feedback loop. The feedback loop allows the
system to make necessary adjustments during operation.

Design Problem

Using the universal systems model, develop instructions on the use of a

technological system of your choosing. The topic should be approved by the
teacher and relate to the Foundations of Technology course. Include a detailed
description of the inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback that are used to
operate the system. Discuss how the feedback loop can assist in operating the
technological system.

Specifications

1. Describe the input, process, output, and feedback used to make a Peanut
Butter & Jelly Sandwich.
2. Use technical writing strategies to develop instructions on how to make a
Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich.
3. Create a Flow Chart to properly make a PB & J sandwich.
4. Describe how feedback is used within the system.

How to Use the System

The student listed the

steps used to operate the
system.

Applying the Systems

Model

The student identifies the

components of the systems
model.

Discussing the
Feedback Loop

The student briefly

explains how the feedback
loop can assist in the
operation of the system.

The student thoroughly

describes each step in how to
operate the system. The
student wrote the instructions
technically and accurately.
The student identifies each
component of the systems
model and relates the systems
model to the overall operation
of the system.
The student explains how the
feedback loop can assist in
operating the system, with
specific examples of how
feedback is collected and
applied.

Above Target
The student thoroughly describes each step in how to
operate the system. The student wrote the instructions
technically and accurately. The student incorporated
images and/or video appropriately to support his/her
document.
The student identifies each component of the systems
model and relates the systems model to the overall
operation of the system. The student specifically states
how each part of the systems model applies to the
function of the system.
The student explains how the feedback loop can assist in
operating the system, with specific examples of how
feedback is collected and applied within each of the
appropriate steps of the process.
