1. Where was Abraham Lincoln born?
A1: He was born in a log cabin, in Hardin County, Kentucky (United States).
2. Name all the jobs he had as an adult.
A2: Besides from being the president of the United States, he first started in a law
career, he could get to work as a shopkeeper, postmaster, and general store owner
in a period of years; and then started with a politics career in 1834.
3. Did Abraham Lincoln go to school?
A3: He received formal education while growing some days per week, but he never
went to school.
4. What did Abraham Lincoln like to do the most?
A4: Her stepmother, Sarah Bush Johnston, encouraged him to read, and sometime
later he was very interested in the topic in general. Some books he read where the
family Bible and probably other popular books from the time.
5. When was he elected president of the United States? How was he elected?
A5: He was elected president of the United States in May 18 of 1860, and he was
elected due to his opinion and views on slavery, his support for wanting to improve
the national infrastructure, and the protective tariff.

A7: As early as 1849, Abraham Lincoln believed that slaves should be
emancipated, advocating a program in which they would be freed gradually

Even though not every slave in the United States where set in freedom, the slaves
living in states without Union control were declared to be free, and both him and his
secretary of state, William Seward, felt committed with the action they did for the
slaves.
8. Why do you think Abraham Lincoln is called one of our greatest presidents?
A8: He turned president in the period in which the Civil War was starting, and he
definitely responded in a very important way while this was happening, distributing 2
million dollars from the treasury for war material, and called 75.000 volunteers into
military service without a declaration of war. He also felt confident about his decision
of abolishing slavery, trying to prevent it anyway possible. He also created one of the
most important speeches in American history, the Gettysburg address.

9. How did Abraham Lincoln die?


A9: He was assassinated by the well-known actor and confederate sympathizer
John Wilkes Booth, at Fords Theater in Washington D.C. He received a gun shot
from him, and then was taken to a Petersen House across the street, laid in a coma
for the next nine hours, and finally die in the morning of April 14, 1865.
10. What is the Lincoln Memorial? Why was it made?
A10: The memorial honors the Great Emancipator and 16th President of the United
States, Abraham Lincoln. Designed by Henry Bacon in the style of ancient Greek
temples, construction began in 1914, with the memorial opening to the public in 1922.
Carving of the Lincoln statue took four years and was completed by the Piccirilli brothers
under the supervision of the statues sculptor, Daniel Chester French. The murals
contained on the inside of the memorial were painted by Jules Guerin. Many large
gatherings and protests have taken place at this important memorial Martin Luther
King Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech in front of it in 1963. - See more at:

A11: Lincolns Gettysburg address was one of the most important and famous
speeches in American history. In this speech of only 272 words, he articulated the
meaning of the Civil War for a public that had grown weary of the conflict

12. Make a brief summary about his life and achievements.
A12: Born in a log cabin, in Hardin County, Kentucky (United States), Abraham
Lincoln was just a new person in the United States. After the death of his mother at a
young age, and a strained relationship with his father, her stepmother introduced him
into the literature, and was committed to love him and got him into a formal
education. Some more time later, Lincoln studied a law career, interested for being a
lawyer; and some more years later started a career with politics, in which he started
to get more involved with the topic. Finally, in May 18 of 1860, He would be elected
for president and had to perform the most important role of his life, doing a great job
and know being stated as one of the best presidents of the United States. Finally, in
April 14, 1865, he would tragically die in an act of murder by John Wilkes Booth, and
in his tribute, the Lincoln memorial was built and is now one of the most important
constructions in the U.S.
13. Name some interesting curious facts about Lincoln.
A13:
* He received formal education when he was younger some days of the week, but
he never went to school.

* His mother died when he was nine years old, which affected him greatly, but he
developed a very lovely relation with his stepmother.
* He had a strained relationship with his father.
14. Reflection: What are your expectations about this new book that we are going to
read? What are you expecting to learn?
A14: I think that this book is going to talk about Abraham Lincolns life in general,
since when he was born to the date of his death, and I am actually interested to
know more about his life, since he was a very important individual for the United
States, and he is also stated as one of the best presidents of the U.S, so in my
opinion, it would be very interesting to know more all the details of his life, and how
did he get to be so successful.
