Jewish Resistance
The Nazis killed millions of Jews, but some of them fought back. During World War Two
and the time leading up to it Hitler and the Nazis killed and massacred millions of Jews.
However, the Jews did not like being killed and naturally decided to fight back against the Nazis.
They formed up small resistance groups all around Nazi occupied Europe and fought back
against the Nazis. Jewish people all around Nazi occupied Europe resisted against by creating
small fighting groups, joining ally armies, and fighting back in the ghettos, such as the Warsaw
ghetto uprising.
Many Jewish people resisted against the Nazis by creating small fighting forces. To start,
the article says, Thousands of Jews escaped from the ghettos and joined partisan units in
nearby forests. (Website #2). Many of the Jewish people living in the ghettos were very
unhappy with the living conditions and found out from others that they would be taken away and
killed. They didnt want this to happen so some of them fled to nearby forests to join the already
established groups of fighters. They also didnt want to take the hate they were getting and didnt
want to die, so the only way to stop it was to fight back. Secondly, while talking about Jews in
Western Europe it says, In France, the "Arme Juive" (Jewish Army), a French Jewish
partisan group, was founded in Toulouse in January 1942. (Website 2). This group
smuggled money and supplies from neutral Switzerland to the hiding Jews in France. They also
smuggled Jews out of France and into Spain. Not only that but they also helped in attacks against

the occupying German force. Lastly, when talking about the partisan groups it says, As many
as 10,000 Jews survived the war by taking refuge with Jewish partisan units. (Website 2).
Escaping the Germans and hiding out with the rest of the Jewish population proved to be
somewhat useful in resisting. They knew that fighting back was the only thing they could do to
stop the Nazis, so that is what they did and it saved some of the Jews. Not only did the Jews form
and join small fighting forces, but they also joined the allied armies to fight back.
The Jews joined allied armies to resist against the Nazis. To begin, when talking about
Jews in the armies it said, Approximately 1.5 million Jews fought in the regular Allied
armies. (Website 3). Jewish people all around saw what was happening and wanted to help
each other out. Many Jew that had fled to other countries had joined up to help out their brothers.
Secondly, when talking about Jews in other armies it says, About 500,000 Jewish soldiers
fought in the Red Army during World War II. Some 120,000 were killed in combat and in
the line of duty; the Germans murdered 80,000 as prisoners of war. (Website 3). Even in
the Soviet Union, Jews served in the army. They fought against the Germans and got some
revenge. Lastly, when talking about Jews in the US forces it says, Approximately 550,000
Jewish soldiers fought in the US Armed Forces during World War II. (Website 3). Many of
these Jewish soldiers helped in liberating concentration camps and fought in both Europe and
Asia. Like other Jewish people, the Jewish Americans found out about the concentration camps
and saw joining the Army to fight the Nazis as the best way to help. Not only did Jews join the
allied armies, but they also fought back in the ghettos, such as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
The Jews fought back in the ghettos, such as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. To begin,
when talking about Jewish resistance in ghettos it says, When reports of mass murder in
the killing center leaked back to the Warsaw ghetto, a surviving group of mostly young

people formed an organization called the Z.O.B. (Website 1). The people living in the
ghettos were already unhappy with the living conditions they were living in and hearing about
mass murder put them over the edge. The decided to form the Z.O.B or the Jewish Fighting
Organization to try and stop the Nazis from taking more of them. Secondly, when talking about
the beginning of the uprising it says, In January 1943, Warsaw ghetto fighters fired upon
German troops as they tried to round up another group of ghetto inhabitants for
deportation. (Website 1). The Jewish residents of the ghetto knew what was going to happen if
they got taken away, so they were going to fight to the last to make it so they didnt get taken
away. They used small arms that were smuggled in and homemade weapons to fight back against
the Germans. Lastly, when talking about the uprising it says, Seven hundred and fifty
fighters fought the heavily armed and well-trained Germans. (Website 1). They hid, created
defenses, and ambushed the Germans to fight back against them. The Jews of the ghetto held out
for a whole month until the Germans had to burn down the ghetto to end it. The Jews fought
back in the ghettos, but they also did many other things to resist the Nazis.
Creating and joining small fighting forces, joining allied armies, and holding out in
ghettos are all ways the Jews resisted against the Nazi prosecution. The Nazis implemented a full
scale systematic murder of the Jewish people, but some of the Jewish people fight back valiantly.
However not doing a whole lot of damage to the Nazis, The Jews did manage to save thousands
of themselves, and be a pain in the Nazis ide
