Providing students with a
project that allowed them to

of their knowledge provides
multiple components of the
information and
communications technology
curriculum. Furthermore, by
making this project relevant
to students and
implementing real-world
connections, students can
draw on resources from
their social studies classes.

incorporate aspects of the
English-Language Arts, and
Art programs of studies

By creating a project that is


relatable, and relevant,
students will be drawn into
discovering their own
province and the impacts
human involvement has had
on the environment in which
we are apart of. Furthermore

such as PowToon, iMovie,
WeVideo, Glogster, and

I began by brainstorming
how I could incorporate
technology into an authentic
learning activity for the
students to engage in, rather
than just creating an
assignment to complete. By
using Weebly as a
technological outlet, I tried
working through initial
barriers that could inhibit
the creative thinking I
wanted students to engage
in. through divergent
thinking, creativity, and
originality students can
produce incredible products
that are relevant, compelling,
attractive, and necessary for
21st century learners.
Through technological tools,
the attributes of this
assignment and crosscurricular competencies can
be met through trial and
error.

To ensure that students were


actively engaged in this topic
I brainstormed various
concepts and used a
breadth first approach to
my planning. I tested several
applications and programs
and concluded that students
needed a variety of options

and the freedom to be
creative in their projects.
Through the options
provided in regards to the
technology integration, this
assignment aligns with the
five keys of rigorous project
based learning.

Although there are several


options of technological use
available for this project, the
rubric and guidelines
presented to students will
serve as an exemplar of the
expectations for this
assignment. Furthermore,
exemplars (for future
classes) will be provided on
Edmodo so students have
options to turn to in order to
further their own
possibilities in the
assignment. In addition to
the guidelines and
exemplars, there will be
links to websites and videos
posted on Edmodo so as to
facilitate and guide student
research.

the use of multiple programs,
such as Edmodo, Weebly,
and various others, students
would have the best
opportunity possible to
provide lateral thinking
into their projects.

By implementing a
backwards design and
breaking the problem into
sub-goals, aspects of the
curriculum I wanted to
incorporate into this project
fell into place. By having
each group of students work
on a separate biome, I
implemented a depth first
approach to their learning
and helped them prioritize
and assess their own goals.
Through the creation of the
rubric, I incorporated aspects
of convergent thinking
into my final assessment and
elaborated on my
expectations for students to
follow.
