What attracted me most to pursue my studies in this field is its boundless scope for
discoveries and its outcome which stimulates one for digging deeper. Chemical
Technician is a field in which various researches are done with immense hard work
and patience level. During my college period I had many industrial visits to various
Pharmaceutical industries and the part of the visit which caught my attention was
the Quality Assurance Department. I was amused by the various procedures carried
out to make various improvements in dosing of drug components. This experience
and inquisitiveness was the stepping stone that inspired me to build a solid career
in this field.
I am applying for a 2 years course called Chemical Laboratory Technician at
Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology. It is a Public College having many
affiliations. I would like to enhance my laboratory skills and perfect it by using the
latest technology available in the field of Pharmaceuticals. The course in Durham
specifically links to my course content I had in my bachelors program. It not only
provides a different approach to the studies but it also resembles a perfect link
between the theoretical aspects with the current approaches in the industry. The
subjects outline states latest analytical techniques, which are required for
satisfactory performance in any laboratory-related work which I have just learned in
the theory classes of my studies. In this growing world rapid technological
advancement has become necessary to update our skills as well as operating
techniques by learning the latest instruments. I believe Durham College will be the
best institution to upgrade my skills.
The main area of study of Diploma is Pharmaceutics. The program description states
that I will get proper knowledge about the development, approval process,
formulation, manufacture and testing of pharmaceutical products. Solid dosage
forms (tablets, capsules, powders), liquid dosage forms (solutions, syrups,
suspensions, emulsions) and other dosage forms (ointments, creams, transdermal
patches, aerosols). The Laboratory portion of the course addresses the testing of
raw materials and finished products. Both chemical (impurity testing, assays
HPLC, UV/VIS, and identification tests) and physical testing (friability, disintegration,
dissolution, viscosity, hardness, etc.) are performed according to USP/NF
monographs. The professors thoroughly know the way the industry operates,
moreover they are well aware about the shortcomings of the technology, the way to
deal it and how to get the desired outcome in every condition. Taking the course at
Durham College will give me the prcised knowledge about Quality Assurance and
its role in helping to establish and maintain quality standards.

I completed Bachelors in Pharmacy in July 2014 with 72% and got my degree in
September. The gap in my education is due the 2 months industrial training at Kivi
Labs Pvt Limited (an ISO 9001:2008 certified company) at Vadodara Gujarat, India.
This company deals with dermatological and neurological solutions. I was trained in
the quality control department where I did various tests to check inaccuracies in the
products using Analytical procedures. Alongside this leading to go through the
English Proficiency test called IELTS in which I secured an overall score of 6 bands.
I have chosen Canada as the destination of my choice because of academic
excellence, value for money, growing destination, wide options for study, worldwide
recognition, Multicultural, Growing Work Opportunities and Challenging. Researchers
in this country are endowed with innovative minds. Along with that State of the art
infra-structure and facilities and the required conducive environment are the
aspects which make Canada one of the best destinations for further studies. It is
also the pioneer in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The education system of
Durham College makes a student self-reliant and well-rounded. My decision to apply
to Durham College is based on careful examination of the departmental activities. I
am sure the guidance of the expert faculty members and the training given at the
department will help me develop the required skills to excel in this program.
After the completion of my studies and getting international work experience I
would like to get a job where I can change inaccuracies and create perfection in the
products by using Quality Assurance. It would also be helpful to develop and
conduct sampling along with data analysis. And it would also be beneficial to set up
and conduct chemical experiments by making a private laboratory.
I am grown up in a well-versed family where everyone is supportive and progressive
with life on basis of present scenarios of the world. My father is a Tobacco Merchant
and owner of a company named Parag Traders. He has been the most encouraging
and influential person in my education upbringing. And my mother takes care of the
day to day household chores. The total expense, including my tuition fees and living
expense will be easily covered by my parents Income. Regarding my focus on
studies, I have been an excellent student throughout my bachelors, and I am
confident enough that I will continue the same at Durham College. The studies will
benefit me and help me turn my dream into reality. The main purpose of any study
is to benefit the mankind and I promise to utilize my skills and given opportunity for
the same.
